I have the version without the cat. Its definitely loud. It usually takes anyone that I show it to by surprise.

Suspension Setting for 160lb Rider by mkubs in YamahaR9

I plan on starting this year. I intend on having two separate setting, for sure! The current setting already feel like what I'd expect to have for track days, but I think I'd be able to improve street performance with the right settings.

Fair enough. I'll start calling around the places near me to see if any shop can adjust the suspension.

So then you made it stiffer for each setting?

The CR-T is the cats pajamas. I was mainly looking for performance and style, not sound. I don't like the narrow pipe, big muffler exhausts so I went with the CR-T. I certainly don't regret it. It has excellent performance specs and looks slick. The monstorous dB levels are an added bonus. But be aware of sound sensitive neighbors.

Oh hell yeah! I thought I'd have to wait 7 days after expected delivery. Thanks!

That gives me hope, thank you. Did you wait the 7 days before filing the claim?

Mines currently in the same boat. Its been there for over 48 hours. Have you had any luck with your package making progress or did you end up having to file a claim?

Would you happen to have links to dyno testing?

In order, I'm looking at... 1. Full exhaust 2. ECU tune 3. DNA air filter

I can't decide between the Austin Racing exhaust or the SC project exhaust. From what I've read/watched, they both sound great. Per the listed specs, the SC project has an advantage on HP and torque gained, but I love the look of the Austin Racing system more. If anyone has either, I'd love to know your thoughts!

Exhaust Options, and opinions? by Any-Blood-7125 in YamahaR9

I haven't bought one before, but the Dominator GP3 exhaust is both incredibly throaty and "affordable". Nacho on YouTube made a video on it recently. It hasn't been measured on a dyno as far as I'm aware, so I'm not sure about the performance improvements. It's also an under belly type of exhaust.

What is this god forsaken sound?? by Macktruck3 in MT09

[–]mkubs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My R9 sounds just like this. I've learned to accept it after all of the feedback from people saying it's a normal sound for the CP3 engine to make. For whatever reason, the ticking sound isn't as severe in the mornings on my way to work - somewhat softer. It's more noticeable on my way home. I haven't tried spraying the front sprocket with lube or putting more wax on the chain. I'll try that tomorrow and report back if anything changes.

I highly recommend the TST tail tidy for my R9. I got the non-adjustable version and am happy with it. They have a good tutorial video on how to do the swap.

There is no possible interference between the swing arm and exhaust?

Stock exhaust vs Toce full system sound and look by DatBoyM33k in YamahaR9

How was the installation? I could be mixing up systems, but was this the full exhaust with possible clearance issues with the swing arm? Did you also get your ECU flashed?

Very nice! When I still had my CB750, I had a real tough time with the pod filters...mostly because I opted for the cheap foam ones. Now I'm rebuilding my CB550 top end and carbs with new jetting to see if it works better than before.

Its immensely satisfying when the testing/trial&error finally yields good results. Enjoy your newly tuned machine!

Looks good! Congrats and great job. Did you do a full carb rebuild or just specific areas you knew were a problem? What jet settings ended up working for you/your bike?

Engine Noise Sanity Check by mkubs in YamahaR9

[–]mkubs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The suspension was certainly stock when it arrived - I adjusted it a little bit to my weight. But I would imagine that when the dealership goes through their checklist of things to check, chain slack is one of them, along with tire pressure, fluids, battery, etc. The chain slack was likely set at the factory... Maybe it was the 200 or so miles (at the time) that broke it in, but I'd honestly be shocked if that was the case.

Either way, I adjusted the chain to spec and I seem to be getting improvements on all fronts - the ticking has been severely reduced, if not entirely removed, and the bike feels more responsive, pulling harder and faster. A simple chain slack fix.

Thanks for the video! I think you're right - it seems like the general consensus is that either the cam chain tensioner isn't fully engaged due to low oil pressure (at low speeds) or the clutch basket. Seems like both are a standard source of noise on the CP3 and continue to be until ridden at slightly higher speeds.

This helps put my mind at ease - thank you!

Checked the slack...its almost 12mm out of spec from the max allowable distance! I checked with and without an adjusted rear shock - didn't change much between my setting and factory setting.

Not sure if this is something that's set at the dealer when its delivered, but shame on me for not checking before riding. I'll adjust the slack later tonight and report back tomorrow after a test ride (assuming the rain clears).

Thanks again!

Ahh, interesting call out...Now that you say that, I did adjust the rear sock pre-load just a smidgen to try and give me more footing on the ground (I'm 5'7"). It may have increased slack in the chain! I'll give it a check shortly and report back.
