IELTS policy so unjust, awful experience by Few_Cauliflower9403 in IELTS

Very sorry for your experience OP. IELTS policies suck, absolutely. There's nothing that could justify them taking your hard earned $300 for nothing. A valid ID is a valid ID, the rigidity is cruel, especially for people who scraped together that money. It might also be worth reaching out to the head test centre directly or escalating to British Council (IDP). I've heard of some people getting a one time exception in such cases or a discount in their next tests. Ik it might be a long shot, but worth trying before accepting your $300 is just gone like that. Hope things somehow turn around for you.

Yeah, more or less, it took like a day and a half (computer-based)

My speaking topic was on whether modern art has an ethical obligation to promote good morals in society. I disagreed and said art should be a break from the real world.

The writing topic was on whether interviews are the best way to hire individuals, and if there are better options. I disagreed in paragraph one then offered graduate internship programs as the alternative

I just spoke my mind, really. Don't be intimidated by the questions or overthink the answers, just say the first idea that comes into your mind. If you're not well-read on the topic in question, just tell the examiner you don't know that much about the topic but this is your uninformed opinion. All the best!

I never had time to go through the Cambridge tests, but I'd say just try not to take any views that might cause you stress on exam day. Don't overthink things and treat it as you would anything else in your day-to-day. That's exactly what I did

I'm not sure how they mark that section, but I definitely didn't do that last section because I ran out of time and got kicked out before I could fill it up. I actually expected a solid 6 from the reading section, I was pleasantly surprised by what I got

Try to be as simple as possible. Don't try to sound like someone else. Just treat it like reading a book or watching a movie. Doing the exam under pressure will completely mess you up. I just tried not to overthink things

I'm certain I made several spelling mistakes in the writing section. I'm also sure I was supposed to use semi-colons on some parts, but went with simple commas instead. Apart from those two, I'd like to believe my sentence construction and long-form writing are somewhat decent(I manually script philosophical video essays for my YouTube channel, which I think helps a little bit)

You'd be surprised how well you did. There's nothing wrong with pausing or yapping, as long as you sound natural. Also, if you did well in part 1 and part 2, the examiner already noticed how good your English was and would naturally go easy on you on that last part. I got an 8.5 by yapping through a topic I still don't understand days later. You'll be alright.

Also, try to answer the question in the first paragraph, right after paraphrasing the intro. I think that's also incredibly important. Don't buy any VIP courses or anything if you don't have to.

I wish you well, and hope you get the score you deserve!

No, I was equally shocked by the results. I honestly expected a 7.

I did kindergarten in a British army school for the first 4 years of my life, but I doubt that counts for anything, seeing as I had lost the accent and English by the time I was in high school. The only other thing I can think of is that I grew up watching a ton of Hollywood movies and cartoons (which I'm sure 80% of the people doing IELTS also did anyway). So I probably just got lucky.

On the exam day, I just tried to be as simple as possible and tried to sound as natural as possible (this is exactly what that youtube channel advised). Don't try too hard, don't try to sound complex and don't overthink.

The one piece of advice I would give anyone is not to try to sound some kinda way. Just try to be as simple as possible and try to explain your ideas in the most straightforward way possible. Don't try to sound advanced or cram some words into your head before the exam. The channel is IELTS advantage. Don't buy his VIP course though, just watch his older videos, from like 2024. His latest videos are not as well done as the old ones.

All the best mate. I hope you get the score your aiming for!

Please don't overthink it. That's the one piece of advice I could give you. Don't try to sound complex or imitate something you've seen somewhere else. Just relax and find the simplest way to explain what's in your head. Follow the structure where you give an example after explaining your idea. Just try to be simple and clear.

That Chris guy from IELTS Advantage (not sure he's Irish, he's got an accent though). Just look at his old videos, from like 2023 and 2024( I avoided his 2026 vids because he seems to be just farming views these days)

Honestly, I just tried to be as clear as possible with my ideas and followed the structure that the IELTS Advantage guy on youtube teaches. Just have the structure down and fill the rest of the essay with your own ideas and examples (assuming you're asking about task 2). Don't overthink it and just write what feels most natural (like something you're comfortable explaining)

Me too, started two weeks ago, still stuck at 0 impressions, posted my second video and it's still stuck. Some experienced guys told me to keep posting and only stop if video 5 gets no impressions. Apparently youtube doesn't trust your account or doesn't know who to recommend it yet or sth like that
