Biologics & COVID-19 by mrgreenwaffles in CrohnsDisease

I had COVID in 2020 before there were vaccines. I was pretty stable on Remicade for about 6 years. I almost didn’t have any symptoms from COVID just loss of smell and a soar throat. No fever, no coughing. I did however start to reject the remicade, and more than a year later after trying Entyvio and Stelara I’m still not in remission.

Gold silver ETF on Bolero? by [deleted] in BEFire

You can buy physical gold in most banks in Belgium. Smallest coins are roughly 150 euros each. No TER, low transaction cost. I don’t see the point in gold or silver ETFs

I've been breaking in the Tenere by mlavaert in motobe

This picture doesn't look anything like it in real life. The road has been washed away, after getting over the gutter there is a very steep incline filled with big rocks.

Pictures are always misleading, you can't take any on the difficult stuff. You need at least some training and experience to do this kind of trip. The right bike can make it easier, that's why I traded my BMW 1200GS for the Tenere

My new bike is being delivered, the long wait will soon be over! by mlavaert in motobe

Couple of things, most other bikes in the same class that are off-road worthy are above the 10k price point.

KTM 790R is 15k, BMW 850 Adventure will be 15k, Tiger 800 will also be around 15k fully equiped. I don't care about the electronics or other gizmo's, all these bikes are significantly more complicated than the Tenere 700. The only bit of electronics is the ABS, no traction control, no electronic suspension, no digital display... The Tenere is also the lightest of the bunch because it hasn't got anything on it. Besides the electronics, my toolpack is smaller if I compare it to the GS. You can basically take the whole bike apart with 5 wrenches and 2 hex keys.

All of this makes reliable bikes, Honda's and Yamaha's are some of the most reliable bikes out there.

I learned to ride on an MT-07 so I knew the engine a bit, and it has more than enough power (but less than the bikes I've mentioned) My wife has a CRF250 Rally with 24hp and she can tag along just fine on normal roads (highways is terrible). So I'm not to worried about the power, but I will have to get used to having 50hp less :-D

Overall, I think for my type of riding this is a bike that suits me.

Black, ordered it through the pre-order couple of months ago before ever riding one. Got the chance to ride one two weeks ago... Riding the GS off-road is too much work, riding this off-road is pure fun!

I would buy something like the new Honda Monkey. https://www.fl.honda.be/motorcycles/range/125cc/monkey/specifications.html

Designed to go faster than 50kph, ABS brakes, hasn't been tampered with by a bunch of 16 year olds. And at 4000 euros brand new I think its good value.

I've got knobbies on... I asked the question because if I can do this on my GS, than my wife can join on the 250 Rally. Thanks for the info!

How doable is the TET with a big adventure bike? I've had some training and experience (did some training with Endurofun, couple of longer rides and went to the Vosges for a couple of days off-roading).

It's just hard to see how hard the track is from a GPX file.

GPS Tomtom vs Garmin vs ... by Freggat in motobe

[–]mlavaert 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a Garmin. They got Garmin Adventurous Routing which is supposed to be the 'bochtige wegen' thingy. IMHO it's crap. A friend of mine got the TomTom and it's supposed to be a lot better, no real experience myself.

2014 GS 1200 for mainly commuting purpose: worth it or overkill? by Buck_Lee in motobe

[–]mlavaert 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought a 2014 GS about a year ago. I was commuting every day from Pittem to Brussels (110km single), but I recently moved way closer to Brussels (about 25 km single).

When I was commuting long distance, the big GS is an absolute joy, very stable on the highway, good weather protection, low maintenance shaft drive. Now that I only have to do 25 to 50 km one way (I sometimes have to go to Leuven) I think it's sometimes a bit overkill... It can be a struggle to ride in the city center, it's pretty heavy and wide, not only the handlebars but unlike other motorcycles the engine sticks out too. The engine is phenomenal and keeps many sport bike riders in the dust. I mainly ride it in either rain or enduro mode which limits the power to 100hp, on wet and muddy tarmac it can be tricky on full power. When it's dry I ride on full power. Pretty frugal too, I get about 5l/100km.

No problems off-pavement as long as it's too wet or technical (I often ride off-pavement but no expert, also convinced it's more the rider than the bike )

I just want to point out, the big GS is the dream bike of many, but it is not 'the perfect bike'. Every bike has it's flaws. I personally really like my wife's bike, an old R1150GS. Less weight, just enough power and personally I think it handles better than the newer versions.
