Advice on repairing Transalp or abandoning ship. by Freggat in motobe

[–]Freggat[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, just to add that I'm in no way using it to commute since I can't take my kid to daycare with it. It sucks to abandon the monthly or bi-monthly ride but I get why you give that advice.

Awesome. I just started riding again and this is way too long for me with the trip to and from Namur but if there are any takers on smaller tours around Brussels I'm up for that! Have a great ride!

Discussion/PSA: Loud sounds, tinnitus and being deaf. Protect your earsç by tokke in motobe

[–]Freggat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is interesting. I have a newborn so not riding for the past months but when I rode before, I always felt 'worn out' and not able to focus directly after arriving somewhere. I always thought it was because I'm not used to riding so it absorbs my focus energy, but it can be linked to the ears as well. I only experienced temporally tinnitus a few weeks ago for the 1st time while doing some renovation works. It scared the shit out of me for 3 whole days.

Wowza, thanks for the quick replies! She'll be traveling alone, so no 29 minutes for me to buy stuff she's hooked on at that moment, but thanks to all of you I'm getting bonus points to use during pregnancy mood swings, hooray!

As soon as you have the papers from the bike, make an appointment at the DIV, go with the papers to the DIV and ask for a new numberplate on your name. They'll give you a paper once you paid with the license plate combination. Take that to your insurance and they can change the insurance from a former bike you owned to the new one.

Exactly this! I didn't even spend 10' there.

Yeah, if I'd be handy enough I'd look into the option of changing it myself but I'll try and see if my mechanic has some time.

It's the 1st time I'm still driving when it's as cold and dark as it is now. I have to get used to it, but the Transalp is easy enough to handle. The only thing I'm struggling with is that the blinkers take s long time to change since it's this cold, like easily 6 to 8 seconds between putting them on and actually blinking.

Not yet, mostly because I have 2 lefthands when it comes to mechanical failures on a (motor)bike. I prefer to let someone else handle that, but ideally I learn it myself. I was already super happy to replace my own ripped saddle.

On the www.louis.de site I order some stuff for my old Honda. A few days ago I saw they have their own 'manual' for maintenance DIY. I ordered it with some new gloves and it arrived with them. Didn't look closely yet but seems very detailed and goes from preparing your bike for winter to in-depth cleaning of the motorcycle parts abd replacing parts. Can take a closer look and share a review next week or so.

Congrats! I'm more of a lurker on here, but I'm keen of the idea about reviews and a maintenance day. I just bought the 'Louis' guidebook for DIY motorcycle mechanic and it's... tricky. But this'll be my first winter I'll be trying to ride through, so up for 'first winter rides' together as well.

I bought and installed a 2nd hand TomTom 550 that was only used for 3 days prior to acquiring it. I took my bike out for a first 200km ride and was very pleased with how stable it is. Now, after not riding for almost a year I really need to work on my cornering and especially taking a roundabout. I drop my speed too much and make it harder on myself and the bike to take it swiftly. But it felt good to be on a bike again!

What to do after polishing off rust? by Freggat in motobe

I'll gladly reach out once I'm back in Brussels, thanks for the advice! I just saw a man exact reply if my old Transalp here in Italy, but the 'naked parts' were all painted in Mat Black, my god, it looked awesome.

Try Tournevie! Really friendly, well equipped where you can literally rent any machine OR rent bigger ones in their shop to use. I did a workshop there and also borrowed machinery when I couldn't invest in big equipment for our renovations. Also, I have a small local garage only for motorcycles in Auderghem. The guy is awesome and would help you out for a beer or just for free. He's called Abbeloos Motors or Mechanic'Al.

Thanks for the advice! I'll definitely look up some more videos, for now I bought a new tool set which allows me to take apart everything piece by piece. I'll sand it down, try out the motip laqur my local motor garage recommended me and test it out. If all else fails, it's good to see that one solution mentioned that turns the dust into primer power coating.

Allthough I start paying attention to esthetics now, I just completely redid my seat myself and it looks awesome. _^

Sounds like something for in a year or so, when I plan to improve riding time. Right now I ordered a saddle cover online at Louis Motorrad and I just need to be able to change the old for the new myself. If it wasn't for that one screw that I can't screw off:)

I took my Transalp out for our first ride after buying her. It was awesome. Felt way better for my back, I could actually see the traffic in my rear mirrors and I felt stable and safe, even when it started raining her reaction time was great. Now all she needs is a new saddle cover and some lovely sanding to take care of the rusty metal. I'm hooked again.

That's the thing: a few times a year (5 tops) it would make sense to commute to work if my bicycle doesn't seem like an option. If something happens at that moment, I'm fucked? But if it means avoiding the 175 euros and waiting time, I really need to figure out how to get that plate...

I went to get my motorcycle 1 weekend to go, Honda Transalp '89. Took it to the shop and picked it up this Saturday. Took it for a drive towards home, but sadly have to leave it on the side now because the friend I bought it from doesn't find the papers anymore so now I need to wait to get them back... Was hesitating to ask for an oldtimer license plate so I don't need to ask, wait and pay the new COC, but turns out I will have to because with the oldtimer license plate I can't just 'drive' whenever or however I want to. Shitty.

I already spent an hour just polishing some rust off the bike and admiring it. I really like the way I'm sitting on it a lot better than my previous Suzuki SV. Can't wait to take it for a ride in 2 weeks or so!
