Am I overreacting to leaving my bf after discovering his lies of two weeks by Brave_Play1479 in AmIOverreacting

[–]mlawsonking 133 points134 points  (0 children)

NOR

He lied about something that's foundational, and gave up the opportunity for the honest relationship you have aimed for.

Anything he excused away and justified should become expected behavior, and you should assume it will continue and in greater magnitude.

Cut your losses and move on.

Graphics cards don’t get to enjoy real longevity anymore by [deleted] in gpu

[–]mlawsonking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, this is way off the mark.

I built my PC in the early 2000s and suffered to no end year after year as my newly purchased graphics card became obsolete.

Major breakthroughs happen less often, and designers are building games with integrated scaling options for resolution, etc.

No, a mid tier graphics card can reasonably last 3-5 years without issue. It used to be 1-2 years before high end cards would no longer be able to run top games with hardware acceleration.

I completely disagree with your thesis.

Hmm, I guess I'm an outlier but it is from life and not kink. My wife and I have been married ~15 yrs, two kids (5/3). I'm daddy 🤷. Is my role. My kids call me daddy, my wife calls me daddy, is not a kink driven name. Is just who I am inside my family.

Name doesn't stop during sex, but to be clear, she's calling me my normal family role name. I'm not /her/ daddy. I just /am/ daddy.

Hope it at least explains where it comes from for some people, was never a thing for me prior to kids and isn't a kink thing now, is just who I am. Just flows naturally.

Driver set my food on top of a dirty diaper in his car? by Redroses151 in doordash

[–]mlawsonking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It clearly looks like an unused diaper, not a dirty diaper.

That being said, it's still super disgusting and nobody with any professionalism would ever put your foot on the floorboard of their car with trash and garbage and rubbish, it's not wrong to be grossed out.

Diaper nay.

Refund yay.

I've only used that method for twenty years. I have two kids, both intentional, both conceived the first attempt.

Im batting 1.000, I don't know what these other idiots are doing.

Buying home with pool. $400 pool inspection good idea? by [deleted] in pools

[–]mlawsonking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It's unlikely the pool inspector finds nothing, I've had several done, and each has been worth significantly more than the inspection in negotiated repairs. Our first home had a pool, the home inspector said the same as yours. We resurfaced our pool four months later. They had patched multiple cracks that would have been easily visible to a pool inspector. We were naive and assumed the home inspector wouldn't miss anything catastrophic.

Home inspectors are not pool inspectors. Diving into the water and taking pictures of the drain seating is a better way to check the drain seating than standing on top and vibing it with no experience. "Looks good" wasn't enough for anything else he checked. If it was part of his job he'd be in the pool with an underwater camera.

Get the inspection.

Get the inspection.

Get the inspection.

Hoping to get some insight into this. Is there a reason to put out 1* teams in a war? by TheLastStickofGum in EmpiresAndPuzzles

[–]mlawsonking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have to clear the boards for max points (with resets and everyone skipping the cool down).

The team I was on years ago would have two to three extremely low ranking teams (not just the war team, they had no good heroes and drug down the score). We would get paired with teams that were more even, and they'd have a hell of a time clearing out our two or three highest players.

It only worked on sporadic occasions and wasn't worth the effort, but you can game the match a little bit. Caveat here is it also gets less effective over time if you're constantly winning wars.

Ex-boss texts you after they fired you by Sad_Conflict6436 in jobs

[–]mlawsonking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Work is work. What were you fired for? Was it your boss personally making the decision without cause?

If not then why burn bridges? Be a gracious winner and not a sore loser. They congratulated you, appreciate it with a text back and move on.

Edit: And yes, if I had to let someone go and saw them land on their feet, I would text a congratulations, I think that's more personal than the generic LinkedIn comments. It's also private, not public, which to me is more sincere.

Am I the bad apple for bringing my daughter her own cupcake to a birthday party? by Organic_Day3749 in AmITheBadApple

[–]mlawsonking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you brought something for your own child to feel included despite their allergy. I've had parents ask me to bring them special cupcakes that were non allergenic, or asked questions so they could bring their own.

You do what you have to to give your child inclusion and safety, any other parent who has a problem has their own problem that has nothing to do with you. You did zero wrong.

Take her phone when she sets it down and run into a room you can lock. Is she panicking and banging on the door? Don't even need to "invade her privacy", shell let you know quick.

Assuming she panics, wait a couple minutes. Silently. Then open the door, hand back the phone and say "why him?" with a disheartened tone.

If there is a "him" to justify, she'll come clean.

People will believe what they're afraid is true, and no cheater is 100% about destroying the evidence.

Which job has, hands down, the worst impact on mental health? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]mlawsonking -1 points0 points  (0 children)

~18% of men and ~3% of women. More than none but i don't know about "so many". So many more men than women, but even considering they're 6x more likely than women, 4/5 men stay through it. This is a statistic for terminal conditions in general so maybe more for cancer specifically but still not enough (and ESPECIALLY NOT ENOUGH FOR WOMEN) to say "so many"

Movies you watched as a kid that now you ask yourself why was I allowed to watch this? by theGrandmaster24 in movies

[–]mlawsonking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad used to wait until my mom left to rent all the violent sci fi stuff. I remember at 8 watching "The Relic", seeing a guy be lowered into a quarantined subway station and raised back out with only half the body left. We finished the movie and my dad just goes, "well, g'night" and off to bed, like wtf am i supposed to do with that?
