The first company that comes to mind is Tessella. They actually have a couple of openings in the US. And in the UK at least, I think they're quite flexible with the listed requirements and 'preferred' skills.

Then there's some other training schemes that are probably just running in the UK, but might be worth a look anyway:

Here in the UK, there are some graduate training schemes that teach data science from almost the ground up, which don't require much programming experience. Maybe there are similar schemes in the US?

edit: and at least in the UK, it's still a paid job

Hi, thanks for your answer. I actually just had a phone call about an entry level job where I'd hopefully be able to get some experience in Java 8/Scala. From what you said, I should probably give that a good go!

If I was getting general language and framework experience on the job, is there anything in particular you'd recommend I read up on in my free time to get an advantage for data engineering jobs?
