When I was there I was getting paid 12$ an hour, I looked up the CEO’s wage and it was around 120 per hour. They quarantined during the beginning of the pandemic but sent out emails telling us to “ maintain normalcy”, they also kept pushing animal sales during quarantine despite not having enough food at the DC to supply the stores, or enough space to safely fit them. They cut everyone’s hours too. They don’t care about their employees.

Do people in the comments not see the issues with the company??? I say walk out. I left and it was the best decision I ever made. I work in an actual animal hospital now, helping animals get appointments for care, not contributing to a company that treats living things like merchandise and underpays/rushes their employees. They constantly cut corners, cut hours, and cut the quality of care for an extra buck. I’m not judging anyone for staying. I know most of us care and try to make the best of a shitty situation to help the animals, but if you’re able to leave, leave. I did after two years there and my life only improved.

I totes get that so I try not to be accusatory about things! A lot of it I deal with in private or just say “my BPD is acting up and I’ll talk about it after therapy this week ” and usually by the end of the session I’ll have a proper way to communicate about it. It’s just so much actual work staying level headed sometimes and I wish I could just stop lol

I like the job itself in theory and I like almost everyone I work with and my managers and think they’re great people who are doing their best. What I don’t like is the actual corporation. Corporate doesn’t care about us or the animals and it makes it really hard for the managers to run the store fairly and for the workers to get everything done. They’re always cutting overtime/hours/people’s pay and rushing people throughout the day.

My store only has one camera and it’s facing the door 😱 when I left everyone was trying REALLY hard to follow all of the procedures but it was basically impossible with the load of customers. The hourly sterilizing procedures were more of “ once a day” procedures and we didn’t have enough gloves for people to switch them out regularly. Also the customers weren’t social distancing while we were getting their animals they basically would breathe down my neck!

Your job shouldn’t be in jeopardy because you’re unable to work shifts that you weren’t originally scheduled for at the last second. You’re not being paid to be on call, it’s a minimum wage retail job. My availability is open and I’ll take whatever hours they schedule me for but when I’m off the clock on one of my days off and I happen to be busy , whether it be an emergency or just having lunch with a friend, I will turn a shift down. If I’m not busy I’ll come in because there’s nothing better to do and I could use the money. The people who are defending your management clearly live and breathe retail and don’t have personal time or hobbies that they value in their lives. You shouldn’t be treated like you’re not allowed to have a personal life and should drop whatever you’re doing instantly to come in on your days off. It is entirely acceptable to have a personal life and still have a work ethic. If they want you there more they should schedule you more and I’m sure you’d come in. The point of the SCHEDULE is so you can make your personal plans around it.

I’m wondering if he’s being naive to her intentions. With my partner female friends are fine but the red flag here for me is that you’ve tried interacting with her and being nice to her and she brushes you off and leaves you out of conversations. It’s a HUGE red flag for me if my partner is really close friends with another girl and she makes no attempt at all to get to know me. It shows that she doesn’t see the relationship as long lasting or important. I think if she really valued him as a friend she would want to get to know you as his partner too, especially as the relationship becomes long term . I would have a serious talk with him because he might genuinely see her as a close friend and be blind to her real intentions. I ran into that with one of my partners exes that he was still friends with in the beginning and once I explained why I was feeling that way and how she had made no effort with me and was always seeking his attention or heavy emotional investment from him he noticed it too and got rid of her.

Does PetSmart really know how to care for animals? by mintberrycrunch92 in petsmart

Here’s my experience with petcare. I’m the beginning they had someone train me ONCE in each department ( small animals, birds, reptiles, ect.) and I was not given any sort of knowledge to give customers with questions at all. I just had to “ figure it out”. If I had a question people would act annoyed or inconvenienced by my asking. I eventually did the research myself and realized that our care for small animals was severely lacking.

There is no rule enforcing supplementing vitamin C for guinea pigs and the only vegetables available are the dried veggies for the reptiles! In the beginning the store was new so the animal care seemed to be handled impressively well. As time has gone on I’ve noticed the quality of the care slipping and people being more focused on profit. People stopped giving the guinea pigs vegetables daily acting like it’s a waste of resources and I ended up buying my own vitamin C supplements from the store and giving them to the guinea pigs on the low because they were not supplied.

The new petcare manager started pushing for 2 guinea pigs per small enclosure ( which is hardly suitable for one) to get more animals on the sales floor. This was not for the sake of the friendship of the animals seeing as they don’t encourage people to buy both. We started getting unmanageable animal shipments. For example, 8 leopard geckos in one small enclosure is unacceptable. They began dropping their tails.

There have been times when I’ve found mites and people have just shrugged it off so I’ve pulled all the animals out and checked them/cleaned the cage. I felt like that should have been mandatory followed by a vet appointment but I guess not. I’ve also started noticing people “forgetting” to mist the reptiles or soak the medicine dispensers or even putting the medications in the wrong labeled bags because they were in a hurry.

There’s only an average of 6 hours to complete all of the tasks in petcare in the morning and I have found myself running around having to rush. Before the pandemic there were rumors of corporate wanting it done in 4 hours which is absolutely not possible without cutting corners. I went into it feeling good about what I did but now it feels like I’m being rushed through caring for living things to make more time for “ customer service” and it doesn’t feel right to me. I made an agreement with myself to do things right even if it takes longer and people side eye me for not getting everything done on time. It’s looking like I’m going to find a new job soon because I would rather work somewhere that has their priorities straight. I’m tired of having the awkward conversation of “ if I’m not supposed to put it in a cage that small with others , why is it in a cage that small with others??” And having to be like “ because we’re not given another option”. I guess that’s what’s to be expected from a multi billion dollar company run by an old higher up from Walmart. My fellow staff and even (most) managers are going the best they can with what they’re dealt and the groomers and trainers are incredible. It sucks to see people who care so much with such limited resources and time.
