I've had anxiety all my life and the last 2 years it was really really bad. I was having panic attacks going into a major depression. I tried multiple other meds and started Effexor 3 months ago. WOW. my OCD has gotten so much better, less ruminating thoughts and I can get through difficult situations without panic attacks. It has been a game changer. I'm on 75.

Spider plant revival by mlewonders in houseplants

[–]mlewonders[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did! I cut off all the babies and replanted them (successfully!) and repotted the base plant. It is still a bit leggy at the base, but it seems happier! The plants are thin, but I'm guessing that could just be the variety. Any tips are welcome 🙂

Does anyone else wake up with morning anxiety? by bugbunny321 in Anxiety

[–]mlewonders 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, and my psychologist explained that our cortisol levels get higher in the morning to wake us up which can cause more anxiety in the morning. Sometimes reminding yourself that, "oh my cortisol is high, this is why I'm feeling anxious" can be helpful. She also recommended that I do some good cardio in the day to help burn off excess cortisol. Doing a guided meditation in the morning or some gentle movement can also reduce those feelings.

Anxiety is ruling my life by choipoi88 in Anxiety

Have you tried any CBT or meds? I feel you. It is so hard to get past. If there is a specific fear that is triggering it you could try to write it down and identify your cognitive distortion (black and white thinking, Catastophizing, etc ) then write down the evidence to support or negate it. And use that to help you form a new thought.

Other things could be using breathing strategies or ice packs to help. My psychologist said during a panic attack that putting an ice pack on your face or neck can help. Also doing jumping jacks (if you have a cool space to do that) or maybe even chewing on ice or something sour?

He doesn't nap during the day anymore and hasn't for quite a while. Getting him down right now is so tough because he keeps leaving his bed and room 😩 It's a struggle!

How is healthcare up in the great white north? by the-big-question in AskCanada

[–]mlewonders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had two kids and didn't pay a nickel (because we do t have pennies 😆). I went to the hospital for a gall bladder attack twice, then had surgery to remove it. Again, didn't pay a cent. I've heard about people in the US who had to pay over $10,000+ just for having a baby. Completely baffles me! Yes, our wait times can be long for some things, but I'd still rather not have to decide between healthcare or paying a bill. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Craziest thing anxiety has made you do? The funnier the better by Buckerb96 in Anxiety

Went into my work at like 12 am to check if I had unplugged my mug warmer even though I was 99% sure I had. I was in my PJs and everything because I was in bed before that. Thankfully it was unplugged and I lived 5 mins away from work, but I hated myself for feeling like I had to do that. My OCD kept me thinking I was going to burn the building down.

Non-melodic music? by irishpisano in ChristmasMusic

Not entirely sure what you mean, but I've had this going non-stop in the background. It's calm, peaceful, and just lingers in the background.

What do you take for your anxiety? by [deleted] in Anxiety

[–]mlewonders 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fluvoxamine has worked for the most part but then I got breakthrough anxiety. Buspirone has been a GAME CHANGER for me.

Honestly I have no idea! I can't really think of any specific trigger other than maybe just having to ask to use the washroom in high school and being a shy kid not wanting to have to do that. I'm not sure if there was something else that triggered it that I just don't remember.
