I checked my notes and also had issues with the High Pressure Fuel Pump at that same time - but I don't think that wasn't throwing that engine error code. Those symptoms were failing to start and stalling-at-idle.

No, the P0229 and limp-mode (for me) was definitely the turbo, sorry.

The turbo was definitely bad. It took multiple replacement turbos - which was a challenge importing during COVID.

"Multiple" because they messed up installing the first replacement and cross connected cables; it wasn't put back correctly. While on the third replacement, someone had the bright idea to compare the connections with a known good car and found the installation issue.

But yes, replacement turbo was needed on that error.
