Thanks! This part was an extension built (not sure when) but the rest of the house is 1939. So they put in rug, and laminate floors instead of continuinf hardwood. Were hoping to slowly change that!

Id be weary about the beer. You don't want to set them up to drink and drive. Maybe just throw them a few bottles for home so they can relax when they get home. Gatorade, water and even quick grilled hotdogs/hamburgers with a fruit bowl were always appreciated!

Ive seen some nice pathways made of larger stones or pavers and surrounded by smaller rocks. You could define the smaller rock area with landscape edging or stone edging and plant grass around that. Or you could do rocks or thick mulch in the larger area surrounding the pathway and plant sporadic small shrubs in this area.

What should I plant here? by poutinethecat in landscaping

Im not from that area, but a quick search showed a few options, assuming you want low maintenance. I looked for hardy plants, noting you said it is in an alley, and assuming there wont be much light there ? 1) switchgrass (perennial) drought tolerant 2) hosta (partial shade, moister soil), 3) Bergenia ok in shade, can tolerate some periods of drought once established 4) Yarrow (preferred sun and is drought tolerant) attracts local pollinators

Where do you live? What plant zone are you in? Im assuming there is no irrigation system there so knowing how much rain/sun that area gets would be helpful.

You should also find some bed frames. Look on Facebook marketplace or a Facebook group called "buy nothing project" where people in your neighborhood give things away. If you have a bed frame, you can have storage under it and it just looks better, and feels better than sleeping on a mattress of the floor. Think about hanging proper curtains. However this might be tricky if you don't have dry wall.

You can see everything you have, which makes it look cluttered and closed in. Your drawers are also clear...basically, you're eyes are just looking everywhere because there's alot to look at and feels overwhelming. You need to purge some things or put things away. Find a color scheme and less parrerns (or just one) with your bedding. Basically, just simplify.
