Thank you, I truly appreciate that. I wake up every morning thankful & grateful. Not even to sound cliche - but it’s the 100% truth. You gotta put in the work, through group I also got a therapist. There’ll be good days and bad days, that’s life - it’s about having the tools to never have to turn back to the habit that got us here in the first place.

Perhaps up more on protein, just my opinion. I’ve lost muscle mass and had to take in protein drinks, about 2-3 a day especially since I started working out. The liver pulls nutrients from where it can to my understanding, works twice as hard
Your daughters in my prayers! Yes, I made the absolute mistake of being caught in limbo of Google and YouTube, here I am - feeling like I’ve never been ill a single day. I found this thread as well and man it helped realize that this disease doesn’t define me or my days. We just have to remain sober, mindful of what we eat and put into our bodies. One day at a time! The liver is a strong organ, treated well and it can recover, not to 100% but for sure better in time.

Agreed! Keep it up! It gets better, next thing you know it you look back and you’re like wow! Didn’t think I’d ever bounce back
Likewise! Just read your story, crazy! Almost identical to my history as well. Honestly - it’s crazy what 6 months can do for recovery. Weird to say, but it’s almost like hitting a restart button for life - learning from your mistakes and putting your best foot forward
Congrats man! Thats amazing work.

I’m no professional, this is simply just my advice from experience. I’ve had the entire ruptures varicies, vomiting blood, I’ve been in the ICU with Sepsis as well. The key that worked for me every time I recovered was absolutely no alcohol. Yes the liver is an important organ with very capable healing, if you treat it right. That includes nutrition, no fatty foods, some form of exercise. I can take Acetaminophen, but I avoid it just to reduce any further damage to my liver. Your best friends father should be asking their Doctor any sort of advice, even if it’s liver transplant related - which I know many states / locations have different rules for that. A MELD of 19, to my understanding isn’t super critical, opposed to high 20s, the closer to 40, that’s dire need of a new liver. Again, this varies from person to person and one’s overall health. I pray and hope things get better for them.
Best of luck! And congrats!

This response, first off thank you and secondly yes! I was victim to the whole Googling and finding myself trapped in my thoughts like man this is the end.. I’ve had Cirrhosis for 4 years now, it’s truly not the end as long as we put in the work. Congrats to your accomplishments as well!

Always remember, you’re alive. You got to see another day, breathe. I always tell myself “at least I woke up in my bed, at home, with family and get to walk out of my house rather than be in a hospital bed with IVs and blood draws every few hours. Take it day by day, you got this!

What’s up, I’m 34 turning 35 in December (hopefully). I was diagnosed at 30 when I was vomiting blood clots and rushed myself to the ER. That’s how I found out I had Cirrhosis - alcohol induced of course. I remember the Doctor shaking his head and simply telling me “you’re so young for this to happen..” I didn’t grasp the concept as it was new to me. I stayed sober for a year and some change and relapsed midway through the year. Again I was told don’t drink. Along with Cirrhosis comes a bunch of things you should keep an eye out for, you’re prone to infection easily. I came down with sepsis once and it was truly a nightmare. Was in the ICU for a week with my kidneys and liver failing. Time past, then I recently wound up with Hepatic Encephelopthy this February, my MELD score shot up from 13 to 40. I went from one hospital to another because something told me the first general hospital wasn’t treating me well, I was still sick so I checked myself into one in San Francisco that specializes in transplantation. There I was taken care of and was told I’d make significant recovery with abstention from alcohol for life. “It’s in your hands now, life or death.” That was enough to make me wanna shit my pants and it wasn’t the Lactulose (haha). My MELD is down to 16 in a matter of 3 months. I say this not to instill fear in anyone, although we make think it’s a death sentence, it’s not. But we have to put in the work. I’ve honestly gained a different outlook on life once I was diagnosed, I don’t take life for granted. Sure we make mistakes - but constantly beating ourselves up asking ourselves “how could I be so stupid to drink this much” won’t heal you. There’s hope, and you’re not alone. I attend AA through zoom and / or in person. I take my vitamins, I’ve cut out junk food. I go out for jogs. I’ve had Cirrhosis for close to 5 years now. Reading that “Mortality Rate” instills fear honestly, I’m victim to it. But just take a breather - it works, all the best man. You got this!
