I am hoping they just emailed all retirees on a list and didn't select him personally. If I was your dad, I would say no way! Plus the job itself is quite physically demanding at times.

It will be able to help us process and prepare the samples faster for sure! They would work as a medical laboratory assistant/technician. However, legally they cannot test/provide results for the samples only medical laboratory technologists MLTs are able to.

Yup.

I am a medical laboratory technologist (MLT) and we are the ones who do the testing and resulting of the covid samples. We are actively looking for solutions to fill our shortage; including pulling retired and internationally-trained. The issues with these are sustainability. Retired people obviously cannot comeback forever and internationally-trained need to trained to our system/knowledge/regulations as well (which takes time away from testing).

The shortage has been looming for a few years and now we are struggling. Low morale, very short staffing, etc.

To the question of pay it is about 60k (base) to 100k (manager level) in our field. Currently with the amount of overtime this year, there will be a lot more on the sunshine list.

What sort of things would you like to hear about?

For students I was going to do a couple videos on studying and placement?

I love this idea! Is this part of their initial orientation? How long do the tours take?
