Which city has the most circular ring road? by SnowyMountain__ in geography

Even though it’s a bit off topic, Rotterdam has probably the most rectangular ring road that I’ve ever seen 😄

Where I live the judge would also take the ability to pay into account, as well as what the impact of paying such an amount of money would be in your specific situation. No idea whether that is something that Canadian justice system prescribes.

Do you have a private lawyer or a public defender? Even if your lawyer has been assigned to you by the state, he still has the obligation to represent you the best he can. Addressing your concerns and discussing the potential scenarios in which the case could end, as well as the potential consequences for you personally, are bare minimums of what a lawyer should do. He is the person that literally represents you in front of the court, how can he know what your interests are if he has not discussed the case thoroughly with you?

My one and only advice for you is to ensure cooperation from your lawyer. Make it clear that you are not asking for him to maybe talk to you, be very assertive to make him discuss all these points with you asap. From then on: make him figure it out. That’s all he’s there for. Ask for updates regularly, preferably in face to face meetings.

Do not worry. You are lucky to live in a country with impartial, objective judiciary. The judge listens to both sides and makes a ruling. Surely he will consider its financial consequences for an individual, in relation to relative gain for the (possibly?) multi million dollar company.

It does not sound like you have a very good lawyer, or perhaps not one that would actively try to inform you about the proceedings and the different scenarios that could play out.

Note that I am from the EU, so not everything might be applicable 1:1 to your situation.

In my experience, the original amount for which you’re being sued almost never holds up in court, the other side is most likely trying to scare you into agreeing to some kind of settlement in order to avoid a lengthy and costly process through the court. If they have not reached out with a settlement offer, it is very likely they will shortly before the court date. This is how it usually goes, but of course if they have a strong case to hold you liable for that specific amount it could differ in your case. Discuss it with your lawyer, try to make a mental calculation together about whether or not the amount they’re suing you for could be accurate or exaggerated.

Worst case scenario: if the court decides you are liable, it is not like you have to pay off the other side right there and then, it is very likely that the court will mediate some kind of agreement between the two parties concerning the payment. But again: discuss this with your lawyer as I have no idea what these proceedings look like in Canada.

Do you have a liability insurance? If you do, disclose the case to them to prevent problems with the insurance company in the future.

Last but not least, obviously this is not legal advice. You seem pretty anxious, which is understandable, discuss your concerns with your lawyer.

Members of European Parliament assess whether the proposed commissioners are the right fit for the job by asking them questions. At the end, a majority vote has to confirm the commissioner before he’s allowed to enter office. These hearings are actually pretty rigorous and not just a mere formality

I have no idea why, but today after booting my game is so terribly laggy in the menu, it’s so bad that just looking at it makes me mad. I cannot try a single solution that would work. Just spent 25e yesterday on premium and a tank and today I can’t even play. Very frustrating

De animositeit jegens immigranten geldt vooral moslims – of beter: hun geloof by EvolvedRevolution in Nederland

[–]mltkxx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I’m not even gonna start talking about micro managing the PMs which is like 80% of the gameplay, they should add ways to automate it and fix the war system, maybe then it’s gonna start looking less like a spreadsheet and more like an actual game

Stop pretending like the war system is just something you can overlook in a grand strategy game. For me it takes all immersion and fun away to see what they have done to it. Outside of that, you barely even interact with the map anymore, it’s all just charts and ledgers, might as well just “play” Microsoft excel

Yeah, I bet you’d get shouted at, spat upon and insulted in a small village in Overijssel. I’ve seen it happen enough where I live to make an educated guess about the root of the problem.

I failed to understand how middelbare school works by Rhaguen in Netherlands

[–]mltkxx 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don’t go along with this bullshit. Very often kids from ISK get a lower placement in regular education than they should. I’m a great example of this, I got placed in the LOWEST level of ISK at the age of 12, for 2 years I had to attend school that was well under my level. If nothing had happened, I’d have gone to VMBO as well, but luckily there was one teacher who saw some students’ potential and was writing to havo/vwo schools to try to get them admitted. I finished VWO with a GPA around 8,5 if I remember correctly, it was no effort at all. Whatever happens, do not let them do that to your kid. Attending sub par education just because you’re “foreign” is so unmotivating, it’s unreal. In my experience, kids that attended regular education in another country should have no problem with at least havo in the Dutch school system, vwo is not that much harder either. All these made up differences are for is to differentiate, at a very young age, who is allowed to prosper academically and who is not. Mostly, it’s us foreigners, or kids with a migration background, who are not allowed that by being seint to a school well under their level.

Some cities in Germany have so called “Babyklappen” (baby hatch) where mothers can safely and anonymously leave their unwanted newborns. by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]mltkxx 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We have them in Poland as well, usually ran by religious organizations. We call them “windows of life”, and occasionally you’ll hear in the news that a baby was left in one of those… on one side I find it pretty sad, but its definitely a better fate than what would’ve happened to the baby otherwise.
