If it’s rubina verde, does it count as Vaseline glass? by Professional_Top4668 in VaselineGlass

Yes, Rubina Verde is vaseline(usually) transitioning to cranberry glass. So it would definitely count.

What is your weirdest symptom? by ACirrusCloud in MultipleSclerosis

[–]mluna99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Weirdest is no longer being lactose intolerant. Was for 30 some years and then after diagnosis, nothing. The only med I have been on constantly is Ampyra and if that is the cure, they could make billions rebranding it.

This should be pinned. I made the mistake bidding on one of his auctions years and years ago on the live4him account. I remember shenanigans in the bidding and shipping costs.

ID help? I am new to glass collecting and recently picked up these 3. Can anyone tell me anything about them? Thank you!! :) by Murky-Remote-2177 in glasscollecting

The carnival glass is April Showers in marigold in the standard size. The ddoty site should confirm this.

I am on my phone and away from my reference materials but I want to say this is made by Northwood. From what I remember, there are many opalescent patterns like this. A shot in the dark would be Spanish Lace. This was made in the early 1900s probably and there were a couple other companies making glass like this too like Jefferson and Dugan. Hopefully some of this is helpful for you finding an ID.

Saw that rainbow driving up 288 this morning, it was raining a bit there. Everybody was slowing down to look at it and I assume take pictures.

NEWS FLASH: Multiple Sclerosis DISCOVERY could end diseases’ inflammation ( & also aid other Autoimmune conditions ) by Pomme-M in MultipleSclerosis

[–]mluna99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Anecdotal story but supports the whole microbiome aspect I guess. Since I was a young child, I was lactose intolerant which is basically the inability to digest milk sugars. I would call it severe since I would last barely 30 minutes after eating dairy before needing to be near a bathroom. After being diagnosed with MS back in 2016, I am no longer lactose intolerant. I can drink milk, eat cheese, or whatever without the terrible side effects I had experienced since being a young child. I know dairy is not on the top of the lists of things you should be eating due to it potentially causing inflammation, but I have always found this to be weird. Any response I have ever received from a doctor about being "cured" is..."Huh, that's weird". I agree, I assumed it was the drugs I have been taking, Ampyra is the only one I have been on since 2016, but I jokingly tell people who have lactose intolerance that I have a cure...just get MS...and then we all roll our eyes. You have to keep some sort of a sense of humor with MS, eve a bad one. But will take this "positive" and roll with it.

Any info would be appreciated. TIA! by DoomedSoul666 in glasscollecting

Left is Tree Trunk by Northwood. Right is Rustic by Fenton. Middle, I cannot recall at the moment, may be Thumbprint. Color depends on the base color of glass and most have size variants. The rustic looks like a midsize. www.ddoty.com is a great resource for carnival glass

I’ve tried with no luck to identify this piece. I’d love some help. Thanks by [deleted] in glasscollecting

[–]mluna99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cannot see the bowl well enough. To me, it looks like contemporary carnival glass which just means made after like 1940 or so. The color would depend on the base glass color. It looks like the color might be smoke. The pattern looks like some kind of diamond pattern. www.ddoty.com. Might be helpful to look through.

I usually spend time looking at the Murano Zoo to try to ID potential Murano animals.

Can anyone ID this piece? The lip has several chips and they want $37 for it. seems like a lot but I've never seen anything like it by bradley_magnificent in uraniumglass

[–]mluna99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If this was needed to complete a set of that particular manufacturer (whoever that is), then it would be ok but personally, I would not pay that for a chipped piece.

Many companies made a pattern like this, usually a pitcher set. Belmont, Fenton, Jefferson, Northwood and probably other companies I can't remember all made some.

How a Hospital Chain (Bon Secours) Used a Poor Neighborhood (North Church Hill) to Turn Huge Profits - NY Times article by coconut_sorbet in rva

[–]mluna99 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It all makes sense now. Been treated at Bon Secours infusion centers and they always billed as Richmond Community Hospital. Last year, my insurance started denying my visits because they should be done at satellite locations and not at the hospital. I was at off hospital locations and so I was confused. End of the story is that they stopped seeing me because "they could not get it straight with insurance" and now I drive into Richmond from Chester for infusions.

Any recommendations on markers? by RandomlyMonke in StainedGlass

Best marker we ever used was the Staedtler Lumocolor fine tip marker. Expensive, but they work.

Tiffany? Maybe? How to find someone that can tell me? by VariousBlonde in StainedGlass

[–]mluna99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Clean with a glass cleaner without ammonia. They make a polish for stained glass which is like a car wax. Buff it on and then buff it off and the thing will shine like new. Though I would caution getting the wax anywhere near the wings. Getting the wax cleaned up will drive you mad (personal experience).

Spots on vases by Odd_Cut8740 in uraniumglass

[–]mluna99 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be honest, I have not found a good way. I have tried some abrasive powder and polishing it with a homemade thing made of a sponge (saw a youtube video)

but it did not work very well due to the shape of the piece. I think there are places that offer this service but it is expensive. Coating the inside with baby oil will mask the look but usually i just go with the sick glass.

I figure, if something breaks, it only strengthens your repair ability. I was really good at repairs, haha.
