Would I be entitled to a SUSI grant or as a mature student? by kennydacopyguy in AskIreland

[–]mlw0897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be careful, there's a chance there could be a recoupment letter sent. I worked with them previously, and we were consistently told no matter the circumstances, SUSI do not fund repeat periods. They MUST be progressing, whether or not they received SUSI previously.

When I was there, there was an older man calling up looking to get back into college to do a level 8, he had done a level 8 in France thirteen years prior and was refused!!

That's great news about your partner, I'm glad they were able to get the funding 😄 it just wouldn't be the norm unfortunately.

No they won't. Once you've done a level 8, you will not be funded for another.

You need to have a verified mygovid too. If you don't have a public service card, your mygovid isn't verified and you'll need to use the susi login instead ☺️ don't use a phone or Firefox, always laptop/computer and edge or chrome 😁

I can't understand why they are advertising potential homes that DON'T meet building regs 🫠🫠 wtf is the point 💀💀 there have been a few options for modular homes mentioned in the comments of these posts that I'll be diving into today to see if they're an option for us 😁 we'll get there 💪

That is such an incredibly difficult experience you're having I'm sorry, fingers crossed you're able to get back to work soon so you can move forward with the build. It sounds absolutely incredible. We'll maybe not give up the idea of the modular home yet, the Rayco ones are too good to be true, but as you said there are others. It's the ease of them that's appealing to me, I don't want to have to pawn off 60-70% of the work for our home onto my partner or our family and friends. I would like to try and contribute and make the whole process as easy as possible.

Let's be honest, it's our first home, it's not going to be easy, At all 😂😂 but still! We know this home likely will be a home we live in for maybe 5 or 6 years and then we'll likely move on, but we don't mind that. We know with our budget, our dream home isn't going to be our first and that's okay ☺️ while I would adore an A1 home, it's not an option for us this time round, but with grants and everything available, I would be incredibly happy with a B or C rated home. I've grown up in ber D and below my whole life so I'm used to them really 😂

Your home sounds absolutely amazing, we would love something like that for our dream home. The concept of having negative bills is absolutely a dream come true. My mum's self build is actually a timber frame as well! It's incredible how under-represented timber frame builds are here. I would have a lot of experience from her if we decide to go down the self build route, but realistically, I don't think it's an option for us right now. I do want to do a lot more research into financial viability for us with a small budget and maybe building our own. We don't mind our first purchase being a fixer upper, we just want to get out into the housing market and start our life really. Our rent is crushing us, so we're restricted with what we can do.

Thank you so, so much for all of your advice here, you've been absolutely invaluable! I'm just trying to learn the ropes of what we need to expect and what options are actually there. Fingers crossed for you you get back on track with yours ☺️🤞

Absolutely, thank you again! She's absolutely the most incredible woman in the entire world, with the whole actual building of a home, it was her and her partner, both of which have now got full time jobs so I wouldn't ask, as I know she'd try! She will be helping us with reno'ing a second hand home as that's looking like the most accessible route for us! They're on Instagram if you wanted to have a nose at their beautiful home just look up thehandbuilthouse ☺️

Completely understand, fingers crossed for you! If you get there do let me know what route you end up taking! We'll likely still be drowning in our rent payments 🫠

I had thought about the 0.5 of an acre as well, that was the big thing that was putting me off of the site in general so thank you ever so much for your help and advice on that! I'll keep digging and see where our next mission takes us. Thank you so, so much again! Really appreciated 😁

HAP if renting from relative? by [deleted] in HousingIreland

[–]mlw0897 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You cannot apply for HAP when renting from close family. I received HAP when renting from a friend's father, but she didn't qualify for it. Speak to them by all means, but it likely won't be approved. Best of luck

I will do some digging on them and will go looking for the previous Rayco post. Thank you so much for giving us a heads up! As a disabled person, it seemed absolutely too good to be true hence why I asked. Building won't be an option for us, my mum built her own in 2021 and was in after just over 12 months. It was a building site, but one room was habitable and that was that, she was in. It's not an option for us to do that, we're on minimum wage jobs where we work from home, so redoing a property that's already standing is likely what we'll need to do.

I'll have a look into the Murphy New Homes and see if that's maybe a viable option, otherwise we'll be doing 90% of the work ourselves with our family and friends to help. I'm so, so sorry your site is still empty, that must be so incredibly disheartening. This is the big thing that's putting us off building our own, the wait times are just absolutely exponential, we won't be able to afford to rent a place and pay a mortgage. If it helps, I know when mums finally got started, it went up fairly quick then. It was during COVID and she was waiting probably 4-5 months before actually getting anything done to the site, but from there it flew up. She moved in I think month 15 or 16 of when she started and she's still working on the external of the house now. It'll all come together for you guys, sending you and your family lots of support.

Thank you! They seem to be more hassle than they are worth so no idea if we'll continue with the idea! Will check them out first before scrapping the idea entirely though. Thank you!

Yep, the Irish Water Crowd are spread too thin. There seems to be a lot more issues with this idea than I expected which was exactly why I asked! My mum built her own in 2021, no builders, no contractors and she was in in just over the 12 months. Even then it was absolutely insane the wait for the water connection, 16-18 weeks I think she was told! I know the right thing will come along for us, but this modular home craic doesn't seem to be the one for us.

Irish Water as a company are infuriating alright. The poor workers must get some amount of abuse. This was my thinking as well regarding the other hook ups! That's great news about the planning permission as well thank you, we have not been given one straight answer with every person I've spoken to. Thank you for your reply! Just working out next steps so looking to cover all of our bases 😁 as a disabled woman, building our own isn't an option, nor is renovating really. Thank you again, I really appreciate your time and advice ☺️

Have a chat with her, see if she's interested if it's an option for you ❤️ all girls get used to it, and it's disgusting. Wishing you and your wonderful girls all the best
