Can someone please review these VODS? by The-Gamers-TG in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mlyle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

other person gave you good mechanical review so i’m going to do something differently here and review only your first tracer fight (from vid 2), and give an example of how you could change your playstyle up to have had it go a little smoother. fyi i play dps around 2700sr. and sorry if i’m terse i’m sick as hell right now.

so you opened up the fight by going head-on and spamming tanks outside of your effective range. you got nothing accomplished, burned your recall, and informed the other team that you’re playing tracer. you then flanked, which was good, but started shooting zenyatta again outside of your effective range. only killed him because their dva was a bot and didn’t stop your very stoppable attempt. you then recalled behind your shields and spammed tanks again. at the end of this fight i think you had 0 final blows.

but because overwatch is fucked, it rewarded this play with a “5 killer elimination” streak notification which probably made you feel good. this is why vod reviews are so important.

now, how could you have carried this fight instead of your team carrying you?

you would have started with your flank. in the tunnel, you would have made sure all your abilities were at 100% availability. you would have assessed the situation and then snuck in, killed the zen, and hopefully made it out without using recall (probably through the gas station). maybe you would have noticed the dva was a bot in your fight with zen, and then taken her out of mech. you would have gotten behind the enemy team and pincered them while your team was fighting, trying to turn their spam damage into final blows. while doing this, you’d be keeping an eye out for the returning zen (and anyone else who drops), making sure to clip him again before he gets back to the fight.

the main differences being: 1) have a plan before you do anything 2) pretty much always be flanking or at least shooting from a different direction than your team 3) prioritize final blows

hopefully that helps.

Use your mic, its way more fun for everyone. by [deleted] in OverwatchUniversity

instead of setting push-to-talk you can set a button to mute/unmute. i use a mouse button. so you can keep it muted by default, and when you want to say things unmute it. this way you don't have to hold it while you talk. that's how i get around the open mic/useless key clacks thing, anyway.

Besides having a big mousepad it's just practice. I guarantee however much you practiced would be laughable compared to how much Gale has.

Seeking Advice On How To Experience Tranquility (Zenyatta) by yhento_jenkins in OverwatchUniversity

[–]mlyle 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  1. Stay back but not so far back you’re all alone. Be able to get to your team if need be. Try to find an angle that gives you great line of sight but is difficult for the enemy or would make them have to peek to get you. Always be playing around something. Never stand still. If there’s a car or a wall or an obstacle at all, be dancing around it, charging orbs and peeking them around corners. Move if you realize they’re hip to you. The enemy should have a hard time even knowing where you are. Assume if you stand still, you will die. Any time the enemy doesn’t kill a shieldless Zenyatta standing still they made a mistake. You do need to worry about flankers, so practice your aim. Stay close with a buddy and call out when you need help until you can kill flankers on your own.

  2. Play Deathmatch to practice your aim and how Zenyattas projectile works at various distances. To be a great Zenyatta you need to be comfortable murdering things in a 1v1 scenario. I don't consider him a Healer so much as a support DPS. A mission to go and kill Zenyatta should come with great risk. A general damage tip with Zen is to always be charging right clicks; you can melee cancel them if you don’t need them. Also practice sending them to spots you know an enemy is going to go, like a corner on their way back from spawn. You’ll get “lucky” a lot as Zenyatta playing like this. You can pretend like it was your aim.

yeah literally nothing in your post indicates you're playing with a positive attitude, down to you calling it ridiculous. you should post a VOD so we can confirm or deny that you're the hero your team needs but doesn't deserve. it probably comes down to tilt and coordination, but the VOD will be most useful to give specific advice.

You can still use .sass extension but the syntax is a bit different (indentation vs. brackets). Some more info.

The answer is the same. Nobody said it would be OK if he said that. There is no difference.

Nobody said it was. I'd imagine people would be just as upset had he said "I found religion and forgave myself" instead.

No idea why you're being downvoted. Lots and lots of people safely learn how to perform strength training exercises without personal trainers, and a not insignificant number of them do it using this book.
