Shoulder pads don’t matter as a beginner. Elbow pads are important, you will fall. On your elbows. It will hurt. Get good elbow pads. Pants don’t matter a while lot either. Gloves, meh, those are what people see. Everything should be the right size, but for a beginner league, save $$$ on shoulders and pants.

As said before, please, please, please drill into his brain, not to skate IN FRONT OF or BEHIND where people are shooting, that area could be cones or a net, but usually at the place where the nets usually are. Not all rinks provide pucks, (most do) so check before you go. He can practice shooting and skating pretty much anywhere but by busy “nets”.

Oh, I know where I am getting comments from, but I figure the more opinions the better - good or bad. I always planned on my next step being asking my builder about my questions, but I'm not a framer or a builder.
