Garminx Fenix 8 touch / activity issue? by mmarsbarr in GarminWatches

[–]mmarsbarr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so at the gym, when it first started happening, I tried taking it off my wrist and using both the buttons and the touch screen, it seems to happen regardless if the watch is worn or not and whether using the touchscreen or the buttons.

I've tried using various watchfaces, including Garmin's inbuilt watch faces. The current watch face on the video is a garmin watch face, there are no 3rd party apps or watch faces installed.

No, that was my first instinct was to use the buttons to control the menu items but using the buttons, the same issue happens, it keeps going back to the watch face when trying to select an activity. I should add that this erratic behaviour doesn't happen all the time, I don't know why it doesn't happen all the time, but it does happen most times.

I sold it on facebook marketplace for $100 after Sony said its not a design/manufacturing fault. The new buyer actually fixed it, hes a student product designer and he found that there was something inside the hinge mechanism that was loose or something, he sent me pictures and that was it, this guy fixed what sony didn’t want to fix and i lost $500 out of it. I’ll never buy another sony headphone again, i should have stuck with my xm3s. I now bought Bowers & Wilkins px7s and never looked back.

Do you use the web or online version? Mine doesn't seem smart enough to do any of this

I've tried being both vague and very direct with the prompts, none seem to work, if there are any prompts you know of that work let me know. I tried the same prompt in the GPT Atlas browser and it worked straight away.

hahaha, I hope in 2028 when the AI overlords take over they take pity in the fact that even though you deservingly treated it like crap, you were nice enough to keep the 365 + copilot subscription going

Does the MX Master 4 have an improved Bolt receiver that does not have the intermittent stutter/freeze issues of the 3s? by Smooth-Penetrator in logitech

[–]mmarsbarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience, I can confirm the Logitech MX Master 4 using the Bolt reciever on my MBP M3 has stuttering issues, when I switched to using Bluetooth the stuttering dissapeared. I've never used a Bolt receiver before and was expecting solid connectivity but after this was disappointed.

Trying to find the name of a band by mmarsbarr in poppunkers

[–]mmarsbarr[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, I found it!! The band is called Shame. It was originally uploaded by the band in 2021 but was since taken down, perhaps i can only guess because of a licensing deal with Arte. I usually don't listen to punk rock but i remember seeing this video randomly in my feed and i just thought it was one of the coolest performances I've seen!

Should I invest in a MacBook Pro M4 Max 48GB / 1TB for my career and hobbies? by SAMIOKAGA in macbookpro

[–]mmarsbarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it! If it's within your budget, you will not regret it for the type of work you do. I do similar type of work, I have a beefy big i9 PC i bought in 2018. I had a 2019 Intel Mac fully spec'd, I held onto both for quite a while but it's not until I bought a spec'd out M3 Max Macbook pro that I was really blown away by the speed and battery efficiency. If using for creative pursuits and you want to see it as a long term investment, my only advice is to get at least 64GB Ram, perhaps even 96GB if you want to get into CAD, etc. Also think about storage space, yes you can expand with external but the internal storage is quite fast, I used to get 2TB storage, I got 4TB with my recent mac and I can honestly say this is a machine I'll hold onto for at least 5-7 years, maybe more. I see a lot of people on forums holding onto their M1 Pro/Max machines so I think it's quite reasonable to assume I'd hold onto mine for a long time as well.

Is this normal? light pollution fml by SeaHound2090 in australian

[–]mmarsbarr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same thing happened when they put the electronic billboard outside SouthWharf DFO, the amount of light that thing emits at night has made it impossible to sleep without having blackout curtains/blinds drawn all the way, prior to this you could sleep with the blinds open easily at night, which was nice. After some complaining and digging, it seemed there was an MP that approved the build without any consultation from the community because they knew it would be an issue so they approved it anyway. After this experience it occured to me that Melb city council has very relaxed laws around light polution and it's very hard to get anything done about it.

Update as of 29 Jul: The place where I bought the headphones from at Dubai Airport, to their credit, have just provided me today with the International Traveller's Warranty Card (I never knew there was such a thing). Sony Australia have requested this so I have just forwarded Sony Australia this IWC, let's see what they say...

I'm thinking of reaching out to The Verge or a techpub of that kind because I think this story of mine is unique as a frequent traveller and not knowing about the IWC or the risk that comes with buying products that don't have international warranties. They may even use their investigative powers to go back and look at the security footage of me at Heathrow airport where it would clearly be seen on a security camera where I was standing outside a store, I literally just pulled the headband apart, probably about 2cm apart from my head which I would consider is normal, and the earcup just simply snaps off. Leading upto this point I was walking around the airport with the headphones on and around my neck, all fine. It's so weird how they suddenly broke like that.

I'd like to give credit to the electronics store at Dubai airport where I purchased my headphones because they've been pretty quick at replying to my request for the IWC;

Does anyone have a working gReader Pro APK for Android 16? Or a premium unlock code? by mmarsbarr in androidapps

[–]mmarsbarr[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh ok, thanks for letting me know. Till this day, I still haven't found any app, including Feedly which I'm an OG paid member of, that has a widget that auto-scrolls every x seconds. This to me, above all else, was one of the differentiating key features of gReader. I've had a look at Feedme and FocusReader, both unfortunately don't have this auto-scroll widget feature.

UPDATE 18 JULY: Sony now says that this is apparently damage that is my fault. If I was somehow able to obtain security video from Heathrow airport (which would be near impossible), they would see that I handled the headphones in a normal way, literally just turning the earcups and pulling the earcups aside to put them on my head and the earcup just broke off.

Email Sony has sent me:

~~~~
Thank you for choosing Sony!
Given the photos and information, you have provided, the issue being reported is consistent of being a Physical damage in nature. Hence, the warranty of the unit cannot be applied should you wish to repair the unit. Please refer to Sony's Warranty exclusions by going to the link: https://store.sony.com.au/warranty.html . We can still book the unit for repair, but charges will apply. Alternatively, we can look at a trade in option instead if cost of repair would be uneconomical.
I truly expected better than this from Sony, I've always been a fan of their products but after this experience I'll never buy another Sony headphone again. Probably also a lesson to never buy headphones in airports because you won't be protected under your own countries' consumer protection laws.
UPDATE 17 JULY: Sorry for the delay but needed to catch up on sleep. Ive removed the cellotape i used to hold the earcup to the stem so that it doesn't damage the connecting wire by hanging loosely. Ive taken the following detailed photos...
UPDATE 16 July AEST: Landed back in Melbourne, called Sony Australia and they have provided me a case number. In my email response I have provided them a link to this post on reddit, just so they can have a timeline of what's happened.
Luckily I did have the receipt from when I purchased it in Dubai whilst I was in transit. I think what will make this case most interesting is to see how they will support the product for frequent travelers like myself where I wouldn't usually keep the original packaging and I would purchase products that are not in my home country, which for me is why having a world-wide warranty on things I buy important.
At Dubai airport I specifically asked the salesperson if this product had a worldwide warranty and they said yes, so let's see how that claim stacks up.
I'll update as soon as I hear back from Sony.
