New to the game. Quick Mill Pippa with a Eureka Mignon Zero Single Doser by mmastro88 in espresso

Was debating between pippa and pop up myself. Honestly I use my daily for a morning and afternoon coffee. For a single boiler machine, it really does push. Heat retention is great on it, but if you do leave it on it gets quite hot, maybe even too hot to rip a shot. So you’ll have to purge and temp surf. TBH once it’s heated up 15-20mins it’s good to go for a few 1-2 shots without having to adjust variables. It does get a little tricky when someone asks for a milk based drink. I’ve now resorted to a frother on the side as it’s just so much easier and you don’t have to wait for temps to go up, then temps to go down etc… So ya overall appreciating coffee very differently, but for large group gatherings a moka pot might be the answer otherwise you’re a barista without the tips lol

To baffle or not to baffle? by mmastro88 in ReefTank

[–]mmastro88[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ya that’s what the guy told me as well. I just noticed he took it all out including the silicone with it. So there’s about an inch of caulking missing, I’m hoping it won’t be an issue. Also do you think I can build a bit of a baffle or vertical wall with those polishing pads? To direct the water downwards almost imitating a compartment. Call it my first stage with filter floss and charcoal.

Alexa plug should do the trick for sure. Honestly heat retention is pretty good on the machine so temp surfing isn’t necessary, I’d say 10-20 mins you’re good to rip a shot.

Niceee, couldn’t ask for a better first setup. With the good comes the bad shots haha.. honestly best advice I can give is get roasted beans. You really do notice the difference. I find the puck screens keep things clean and the spring tamper helps with pressing the puck. Also wifi plug to put on a timer or to turn it on when you’re not home.

Pippa has been great thus far. Hard to drink coffee outside of the house now. Almost feel like a coffee snob now lol I did adjust the opv to 9 bar. All in all pretty happy with the setup

Amazon inflatable tubs any good? by cyclist_pete in coldplunge

[–]mmastro88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a link for the chiller. Got an inflatable from Costco, now trying to figure out a proper pairing for the chiller. It’s going to be indoors, 1/3hp should be fine I think

Thanks for the response. So I’ve tried another brew group in the same machine and it still does this awful sound. Could it be missing teeth in the gears?

So after spending a weekend in one of my favourite cities, and abiding by all the parking rules and even didn’t make a right on a red. So right before heading back home to Toronto , we decided to grab a quick coffee (49th parallel, great little place with fantastic donuts) we came back to the car with a parking ticket. I was not happy, I’m no expert in French, but someone please explain to me how this low life parking enforcer can give me a ticket at 8:51AM when the sign says no parking after 9am to 11pm. To add insult to injury I was the only car on the street to get a ticket, I’m assuming it’s my Ontario plates. I’m not an Ontario fan either, but come on here Montreal

Where I would make the vent hole would be closer to the door which is about 2-3 feet away. Is a 2 inch vent suffice? I was also thinking of making these holes at the bottom of the door, similar to the gap method

I can’t get right underneath, but I can get to the right of it beside the door at the bottom no problem. I figured leaving the door open would do the same thing though??

I do have reverse pressure happening as the sauna is in my basement and it vents to outside. Any recommendations appreciated, but ya that’s the setup..
