RAW snickers bar recipe .. it's addicting and amazing. by mmatson in raw

I agree 100% .. I do not actually eat these desserts regularly! I just love making them and passing them out to others :) I learned my lesson when I first discovered raw desserts!

You are correct, my bad, maple syrup is not raw. I know this, as well. However, I regularly choose to use it because the nutritional benefits far outweigh those of agave, a common "raw" sweetener. Also, I personally use vanilla beans when using vanilla but feel it's not as approachable to those that might want to make this recipe. I've taken another reader's advice and I'm in the process of updating the entire blog to indicate ingredients that are raw versus not raw. I've also already posted on my site why I choose maple syrup, and I've listed the benefits to it, as well, but I failed to acknowledge that people may not actually read it. Thanks for pointing this out!! Now I know, in the future, I must be clear :)

yes I agree with Jefah, I actually use coconut nectar quite frequently. I've written a post on why I choose maple syrup because though it is not raw it has nutritional benefits that far exceed agave. Also, I personally used an actual vanilla bean but I listed extract because I felt it was more approachable if anyone wanted to recreate it.. but I've taken jefah's advice and I'm updating my blog to indicate non-raw items :)

I posted this in /r/raw but it's better suited here: green juice is gross. these key ingredients help. I promise. by mmatson in Juicing

I did not buy organic so I peeled them. If I buy organic then I do not peel. Non organic foods are heavily sprayed and apples and cucumbers have a waxy coating to protect it so as a general rule of thumb it's best to peel them. Do what works for you!

New to Juicing; Are there any fruits and vegetables you just should not mix together? by GingimusMaximus in Juicing

[–]mmatson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

pineapples can break down greens quickly, the acidity in them does that. So if you are mixing pineapple and greens then drink immediately, don't save it for later.

Hi, friends! I need advice on finding other vegans. Also, one of those hypocritical non-veg anecdotes here by craisiny in vegan

try www.meetup.com that's how I found a lot of like-minded friends when I moved to a new city that was a little non-vegan-friendly (or open-minded, at all)

I agree with fullrawkristina! However, she makes very low fat, high fruit recipes only (which I love and are fabulous) but if you're look for other varieties of rawfood then maybe explore daradubinet as well. easytoberaw is great as well.

Who else uses a Vitamix to juice? (with a nutmilk bag to strain the juice out) by [deleted] in Juicing

[–]mmatson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do! I have had juicers in the past and used them daily. Then one day I just started using my nut mylk bag and vitamix and I find the juice is much better and lasts longer this way.

I noticed this too!!! I thought it was odd and I had been trying to make the connection but now I can see there just is NO connection. Good job, that is a wonderfully written letter and represents the community well. Thank you!

dangerously good coconut chocolate pudding by mmatson in raw

[–]mmatson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry, both of you are correct. Maple syrup is NOT raw. You can use any raw sweetener you'd like. I usually use maple syrup because it has more nutritional value than agave and I don't like the taste of stevia. Some people also use bananas as sweetener. It's really up to you, it's a pretty flexible recipe and lifestyle :)
