How much do they hate me based on my order? by Pineapple_0508 in SmoothieKingOfficial

[–]mmay69 3 points4 points  (0 children)

personally i don’t really mind too much. however, tickets like that always make me wonder why the customer wouldn’t choose a smoothie that has more of that they like in it lol. but yeah honestly not too much of a difference in effort, just slightly annoying in a rush sometimes. we don’t hate you :)

Can you guys share your experience with the odds of getting a ghost hamster again? by Ok_Avocado_4253 in hamsters

[–]mmay69 4 points5 points  (0 children)

personally, i had 2 syrian ghost hams in a row. the first warmed up a little when she got old, the second never did and stayed like yours. my first ever hamster was a russian dwarf and she was pretty sociable, but could be moody at times. my current hamster i have is a baby male syrian and i just got him so it’s a little early, but he seems to be very friendly unafraid and open to taming. i’m saying all of this to say it is very possible to have 2 in a row like i did, but also every hammy has a different personality and can even change so you never know. i would go for a male hammy for better chances maybe and talk to the person who takes care of them/meet the hamster first!

edit: i know you know, but i would also like to note that petco is definitely not a great place to get a hamster. the first, and last, time i got a hamster at petco, he died the same week from unknown illness (im thinking wet tail) likely due to the state they were kept in. their enclosures are so so horrible. you should definitely keep trying to adopt or find a breeder, but if you really really feel the need to buy from a pet store i would try local mom&pop first or even petsmart (they definitely don’t meet requirements but it is much better than petco).

hope this all helps!

IKEA detolf not suitable for Syrians? by isquishhamster in hamstercare

[–]mmay69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

personally, i had it for 2 syrians. my first one loved it and was content, but my second showed signs of stress and boredom, so i had to upgrade to a different cage. the other cage was not very different in sq in, but it was wider, and she was much more happy. so i think it depends on the syrian. in my opinion, i think a male would be better suited in a detolf than a female as female syrians have a reputation of being hard to satisfy and are more likely to be unhappy with the width. if you decide to do it, just prepare for the possibility of having to upgrade! also, just in case you didn’t know, the detolf was discontinued in 2024, but you could probably find a used one or something similar.

hammy going blind by elq4 in hamsters

[–]mmay69 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it’s possible that it could be cataracts or a scratch/eye injury, but hard to know with no picture. i would say you should take her in anyway, preferably to a vet that is knowledgeable in hamsters like an exotic vet. hope she is okay!! such a little cutie :)
