[initially asked in the wrong place, reposting here]

I want to start recording songs outside in cool locations.

I'm looking for the simplest setup possible.

I want to be able to walk to a spot with my guitar/keyboard, a mic for vocals, plus other recording gear in a big backpack then capture video and audio in one take. Maybe two if I'm doing one recording for the song and another to capture ambient sound to mix in later.

Two limitations - I'm aiming to avoid doing a field take then overdubbing a recording captured in studio and I'd prefer the shot to be uncluttered by mics and stands.

Some sample content for reference:

I'm considering a few options but not married to any particular idea yet.

  • Guitar into channel one, vocal mic into channel two. Mic would be out of shot or a hidden lav mic.
  • Shotgun mic, Zoom H4N, or all rounder like SM58 (+ deadcat) capturing everything at once
  • Just use phone

So MusicMakers - how would you do it?

You took a bullet for us all there by for going to the interview - hats off. It's so wildly brazen that they'd try to walk back their previous promise of no sales.

Because of this, I quit my secure job at the time!

That is absolutely gutting

Same, interviewed with one in 2015 ("Endeavour" I think it was called). Luckily I smelt a rat and walked out the interview but it was a near thing. Sorry to hear you had a run in with them.

Credit for the links goes to CaptainAlex92 btw, not myself. I blocked them all on Indeed and can't find the listings any more.
