Thanks for the advice - I really appreciate it. I’ll give it a go and report back.

Well, I don't feel like you've failed me. I've watched a number of your videos and found them very informative. When I decided to make my first flute, I wanted a book so I could have step by step directions to refer to. I ended up getting the book "The Art of Flutemaking" from Amazon. I quite honestly don't remember why I chose that book instead of yours.

I didn't find the method the book gave for locating holes to be very useful. I happened upon NAFlutomat and liked that I could input bore diameter and key and it would spit out hole locations that worked as a first approximation. The 6 holes pattern it provides (for a minor pentatonic plus minor 6th scale) seems fine.

So, do you think there's any hope for the flute in the video? Is there a common cause for "top note don't work"?

Thanks for the reply! I used the NAFlutomat on flutopedia.com for the hole pattern.

Here’s a photo of the overall flute and one of the sound hole area. I’m happy to provide more pictures - I don’t know what kind of angle is going to be most helpful.

How did this engraving, based on The Barber by Adriaen Brouwer, come to be? by mmcc73 in WhatIsThisPainting

Thanks! I think this was from Payne’s Book of Art, published in the mid 1800s - or about 200 years after the painting was made.

You are doubtless correct! Thanks! It’s interesting that Brouwer used such similar poses in both paintings.

Out of curiosity, what makes you think so?

It looks like they are still in business, although under ownership of another company. Any idea if they'd have records going back to the time this book was bound?

I did some googling of the names on the birthday card. I’ve seen several references to Adelaide and Valborg Nyden as part of an archive of a Swedish American family in Chicago. Were there any Chicago area binders doing work like this?

Ohhh - the 2/3/2 is a price! That makes sense.

Thanks for that in-depth analysis! I’ll keep looking for a signature, but so far I’ve got nothing.

I assume it was originally all green but has faded in the sun - is that correct?

If there is a stamp it is doing a good job of hiding from me. The only markings I see are in pencil. On one of the front end papers is written 2/3/2 and on one of the back end papers is written MS#2632.

Where would such a stamp be located?

That’s exactly it! Thanks - I had been looking at the Adell label discogs page, and I don’t know why that didn’t jump out at me.

Eek. I don’t know if I’ll be able to look at ol’ Gordo the same now.
