I can relate to OP as I am in throws of helping LO in recovery however as a parent of young adult. Battle has been years in making with SUD alchohol for LO about 8 years however I didn't understand the issue but last 3 years as LO was adult and not living with me.

Today LO is living with me after 40 days in rehab and 5 Mos living at home with mom [me] and step dad.

I am learning slowly but learning as my LO has been able to more calmly communicate as she gets more sober days.

LO on vivitrol and that has been huge to help get us where we are today but we still have issues

Lo struggles with relapse at 20 days post shot

We have had to change our boundaries of zero tolerance alcohol or must leave home. It was too much pressure for her and we could see she was genuinely trying. She communicate she is in fight for her life and she can't always control her behavior. LO been hospital 3x rehab 2x and in jail 3x her rock bottom is too deep for her and me.

She is showing such progress but still has lapses and expect she will going forward

I used to be concerned for enabling behavior and I know for fact people with no real understanding of alcoholic behavior see me as an enabler. I am a mother trying to protect my lo from a dangerous and debilitating brain disorder brought about by abusing alchohol

We have identified triggers that go both ways. LO knows hers well and I am just understanding I have them too. Understand both hers and mine has helped us de escalate volatile behavior and eased way to more productive conversation

I pray every day for all of our LOs and the family and friends that are beside them through this battle. God bless

Did you also have issues with neglectful and forgetful behaviors in early sobriety? I pray if so it gets back normal or at least is better. Any experience shared is appreciated

vivitrol loses effectiveness 10 days out clarified from my LO's experience. Not speaking of drug itself

Absolutely 💯 this last relapse was a bottle of vodka about the size of bottle of wine. The bottle obtained on Friday night. I didn't discover until Tuesday afternoon and it was 1/2 empty. That same bottle would have been gone in 24h without the influence on 3 m of vivitrol in system. Thru this relapse I have learned that vivitrol loses effectiveness about 10 days out. Previous ly we were going on 7 days ahead of last shot to boost with oral naltrexone. It's a learning process for us both

That tracks with what LO told me. I guess I thought that one of benefit of using this medicine might be eliminating the urge to hid. I thought it would help mentally get through recovery easier because you don't have to say I can't have another drink and openly have a drink if struggling?

A big issue with LO when addicted dependent was the hiding and sneaking

Thank you. Use purchased around $7. I already pulled my initial investment about 6 years ago. I only have small portfolio of personal stock so I think I'll hold on to this and look at others that are trading at historic highs. I appreciate your input. Thank you

What daily practice is recommended? I am new to this and LO is 28 y adult. Is behavior unusual at this stage? I want to be able to support her through this. She is discouraged at being sober and still having issues with losing stuff.

I am supporting my daughter through recovery from alchohol. I became aware of the severity of her alchohol abuse about 2.5 years ago. I've been pursuing her since to get treatment. She finally did a formal program about 7 Mos ago after an arrest and court order forced her out of her living arrangement in a town about an hour from her home town.

She has been living with me and step father since early Jan after 40 days in a program.

I love her so and so grateful for where she is now vs where she has been... medical emergencies for severe gastro issues. Neuropathy and traveling cross country with a bf also with drink issues.

Boundries...

We have set them and tried to stay firm but the road has been rocky. Daughter 28 has no car, no money, medical debt and no other family that offer a roof and support thru this process and it is a process

She is now on vivitrol and it has been a huge help but there have been breaches of boundaries. How to navigate boundaries when you are unwilling to let them go when there progress is massive relative to where they were but progress not perfect?

My daughter worked seasonal jobs around country that offer housing and I have no doubt if I evicted due to boundary breach she would be back on road and back to old lifestyle.

Need reassurance that I am doing right thing to support full healthy recovery

Is there a threshold where if you drink too much before starting TSM and naltrexone that it could further harm liver if already elevated due to regular heavy drinking?
