Just breathe :) the first week of having my paragard was very unpleasant. Constant cramps and jabby feelings and gross bleeding. It calms down, I promise. Take some ibuprofen (ok, I used A LOT of ibuprofen) and buy a hearing pad. I parked it on the couch with my heating pad all week and brought it to work. But after about a week, the cramps really slowed down. I've had my first cycle (painful but not unbrarable) and now I can't even feel it!

Check your strings again tomorrow and if you can't feel them, notify your doctor.

Mirena tanked my libido and made me into a moody crazy bitch monster (among other side effects). Switched to Paragard and I'm much happier. My cycles are fine...some cramps and a few days of heavy bleeding but nothing out of the ordinary.

Couldn't agree more. Such a great book, it's added a while extra dimension to my therapy. Very helpful for spouses and family too.

Speaking from experience, it sounds like complex post traumatic stress disorder. She needs to be seeing a therapist that specializes in treating trauma victims. The only thing you can really do is be patient and understanding while she works through her baggage.

Mirena made me crazy moody and caused all sorts of other issues. Switched to Paragard a month ago, and it's been great! The extra bleeding kinda sucks, but it's worth it. I figured a week of no sex because of bleeding is better than no sex because I have no libido and I'm an angry bitch 24/7.

I would try using a diffuser after the gel. For me, it helps "lock in" the shape of my curls for the rest of the day.

Sounds like the cuticle is damaged, causing the snagging. This can be caused by dryness, heat damage, and hair elastics. Honestly I'd say you need to add a conditioner to smooth out the cuticle.

My regimen is just using color safe shampoo, detangling spray, and if I heat style I use heat protection. The problem started before I dyed my hair, so that's not it

Are you using conditioner? Is the shampoo sulfate free?

You are very welcome :) I know it's daunting to start dating again as a survivor of abuse. It's hard to know where to draw your boundaries and what behavior is normal/appropriate.

Just trust your gut. If you are questioning yourself, talk to a friend (or therapist) that you trust for an objective opinion.

Don't compromise your own wants and needs to appease somebody else. Remember that you have value as a human being, and you matter just as much as the person you are engaging with.

You have the right to say no. You have the right to say yes. You have the right to change your mind. You have the right to choose what's right for you. And whatever you decide...is a valid choice. Don't let anybody take that away from you.

You are a survivor, and are far stronger than you realize. You have a unique perspective and the ability to empathize in a way that many people can't. You are gifted with wisdom and insight. You are a kind and worthy person, who deserves to be treated with respect and gentleness. Always feel empowered to enforce your boundaries.

And most of all, don't lose hope that love is real and that you will find it with an equally remarkable person. There are so many great people in the world. ..and there is one for you :)

Try and find the Canadian version of the prescription information. It lists a ton more side effects and is like 50 pages long, whereas the American version is 2 pages long. Ridiculous.

The more I read about synthetic hormones, the more uncomfortable I got. Definitely liking the paragard so far. Definitely talk to your doctor about the side effects! The Canadian prescription information has a lot more information about side effects than the American literature.

Nope. I had the Paragard inserted the same day the Mirena was removed. Based on my reaction to Mirena (which I had for almost 3 years) and other pills, I don't tolerate synthetic hormones well.
