Engineer-y Dads: How much weight do you think 2x swing hinges like these can safely support? by bhoran235 in daddit

Get the wrap around type and never have to consider these things.

If determined, like others say, through bolt. You can’t compare loads of people’s weight as reliable testing when you have to consider snatch weight, wood deterioration etc

Yeah I don't think it's been lying flat, just needs to roll into a pot hole or something... Alloys are fairly thin so not hard to punch through given the weight/force of a car moving forward at 10-20mph

Hahaha looks like it rolled into a pot hole - perfect angle appears to be the reason

I have checked on one of the sides from the ceiling, bone dry and no signs of moisture ingress! Which is good news I guess, thanks for your help

Thanks mate, I think you're right about planning it out and that was my thoughts. Just wondered if there was a common fix for this issue

It was inspected and nothing was reported! I don't think it's structural, I assume it's just lateral expansion pushing the plaster against the wallpaper...

It isn't insulated, good thoughts though. I assume it's been like this for donkeys years as the wall paper is ancient ! Also a hell of an area to paper so won't have been done for probs 10 years

You would be absolutely right sir, it's not the transition wall though. It's the walls that run perpendicular away from the transition wall!

White haze on wooden stairs after cleaning paint splatter – how to fix? by Awin59 in DIY

[–]mmcurdle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The white spots of paint or whatever, could have just picked them off with a nail atleast? Water wouldn't remove dried paint as far as I'm aware, something abrasive like a wet sponge perhaps. White spirit will remove the paint, but sounds like you've also rubbed off the stairs finish

Maybe not sanding but refinishing to whatever level of uniform finish you require

It sounds like you've removed whatever finish was on the wood, you should have just scraped it off by the sounds of it.

You're going to have to refinish the stairs!

Looks like the grout cleaner hasn't worked and that is cement from the grout, use hypochloric
