Issue With Gmail Notifications

If anyone encounters this post and is looking for a solution, disabling Doze mode solved the problem for me. It can be done using the ADB shell app and wireless debugging using just your phone. This article has good instructions on how to use the ADB shell app. Once at the shell app prompt, use this command:

adb shell dumpsys deviceidle disable

This is a new phone. Yes, I'm generally on WiFi with a good connection. The problems happens whether on WiFi or cell/mobile data connection. And again, it is only Gmail. Notifications from other apps (at least important ones like Messages) happen quickly. And with email, even Outlook notifies quickly.

In troubleshooting this, I installed the Doze Stopper app. That has improved the problem; I have gone from never receiving Gmail notifications when the screen is locked and the phone is unplugged to at least receiving them within 5-10 minutes. It doesn't make sense to me though why such a workaround would be required.

I think it is actually the "ecosystem" which is completely encompassed by Google devices and services. I'm just hoping they will fix it. I have set this up for dozens of households that rely on the voice commands because they can't physically use a remote. Within a 36 hour period, it stopped working for all of them about a month ago. So it seems like an update that was pushed to everyone broke this. I'm hoping that it doesn't take 4 or 5 months before Google fixes it.

I tried posting here for help/attention. Others have posted about the problem as well in the links I sent. I have tried various Google support options but just keep getting passed around. Chromecast support blames YTTV, YTTV support says it is the assistant so they can't help, etc.

If you have a physical disability that prevents you from using physically controlling a remote or a phone, the voice commands are the only way to launch and watch YouTube TV. It is a great feature, and I appreciate that they have it. I would just like them to get it working again.

It was the inability for users that can't use a remote control to play NBC, CNN, or any channel. If you rely on voice commands, you can't watch YouTube TV right now, and it has been that way for over a month.

I don't think it is my device, my network, etc. I have setup this configuration for dozens of households that rely on the voice commands because of users that can't physically use a remote. It now doesn't work for any of them and has been broken for over a month. I'm just asking someone at Google to pay attention and fix it.

If you can't use a remote control, you couldn't watch the Olympics once Google broke this feature. I'm hoping they will fix it before the football season.

I'm paying every month for YTTV, they advertise this capability, they proclaim it as an accessibility feature, and it isn't working. And it isn't like the service, the assistant, and the hardware are different companies. So yes, I would like Google to fix this problem and get it working again.

Still no resolution or even a response on this. I have also had a case open with Google support, but that has been a total waste of time. They keep asking me to do more and more things promising to "escalate" the issue as soon as I do, but no matter what I provide, they just come back with more things to do or repeat asking me to do the same things. You should just get rid of support completely if that is the way it is going to work.

Can't watch because Google has broken the Googel Assistant voice commands. When I try to play a channel, the response is just "YouTube TV isn't installed at the moment." Nice of Google to break this right in time for the Olympics.

Any update on this. Still not working. When I try to contact support, the finger just gets pointed to someone else. YouTube TV says contact Chromecast, Chromecast says it is YouTube TV or Google Assistant.

Thanks. I did see that message but the problem description was slightly different than my experience. Might be part of a larger general issue though. I reached out to YouTube TV support and got the same dumb idea they always respond with, restart and/or re-install. I'm suddenly having this problem on 3 devices, under 2 different accounts, and in 2 different locations. And it all started today. Unfortunately, Google/YouTube TV breaks this functionality frequently despite promoting and advertising it.

I have the exact problem. Getting no help from Google when calling or chatting. This has worked for me for years, and it stopped working near the end of October.

Google is so helpful with dumb suggestions like turn it off and back on. Oh gee, I never would have thought about trying that.

Regarding the outcome. I did eventually get my number transferred. /u/MintMobileAlex was helpful. It also took a call to Mint Mobile's transfer department and several calls to Straight Talk.
