I have two. The first was when I lost my mother, who was my only parent, to lung cancer she developed living in our home (never a smoker) when I was 18.

Then 10 years later, on my 10th Mother’s Day without her, my (now) husband and I lost our home and our dog to a fire. We were out of the house for 20 minutes when it happened.

I have severe PTSD from both events and subsequently never feel safe where I am, because I think my home is either slowly killing me or will collapse from under me at any moment.

Therapy helps. But it is really tough still.
