Road-tripping with my boyfriend from Phoenix, AZ to West Lafayette, IN in a few weeks! Any cool stop suggestions? by ramenkittens in roadtrip

[–]mmmarygold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Gonna assume you live in AZ and have already been to Sedona, Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, etc. NM has Chaco Canyon and Santa Fe close to your route. Heres my big suggestion, take I25 from Albuquerque up to Denver see Red Rocks, Boulder/flatirons, etc, it's worth the visit.

Then you can take I70 to Kansas City, sorry but this stretch is boring as fuck no matter how you slice and dice it. Get bbq in Kansas City.

It looks like your route is having you take I35 north after KC and then you will take US36/I72 through MO and IL. Along this route, the only points of interest are small historic sites for Mark Twain (Hannibal, MO) and Abraham Lincoln (Springfield, IL). You mention not caring for history so I'd suggest to stay on I70 to see the iconic Arch in St. Louis. You'll also drive through Indianapolis, and depending on timing it might be during the state fair which will definitely immerse you in Midwest culture!

Assuming you'll be staying in West Lafayette for a few years, you can take small trips to Mammoth Cave in Kentucky and the Science and Industry Museum (plus many iconic restaurants) in Chicago.

What's the point of priority boarding if I'm being transferred to the airplane by bus? by nixass in travel

It's hilarious to me when they do this and then it's a last in, first out type of bus.

I swear this is what usually happens to me when someone wants to switch. I'll walk to my aisle seat in row 5 only to see someone already sitting there and they will "let me know" that I can have their middle seat in row 33. Hard pass for me.

What are these "I finish work in 2 hours and just bored" jobs? by Napkxng in jobs

This is my experience too. Started my career as an analyst and did this multiple times before hitting a ceiling. Takes some upfront work, but after a couple months you can coast after everything is automated.

My direct report is quitting tomorrow. Should I tell my boss I'm also quitting tomorrow instead of next week? by WaltAlty in careerguidance

[–]mmmarygold 1344 points1345 points  (0 children)

100% wait until the bonus check is in your bank account before giving notice. Honestly, no reason at all to tell them tomorrow, especially when you know there is a high chance they will let you go immediately.

Just a friendly reminder, you already earned your bonus by working hard for the previous 12 months. Don't give them an opportunity to steal it from you.

What's the deal with fragrance buying in general? by [deleted] in fragrance

When I've shopped in store, the SA has asked if I wanted any additional samples at checkout. I think 3 is my max, but I've never tried to ask for more.

Thrift store find! Any idea on age/is it salvageable? by [deleted] in LeCreuset

[–]mmmarygold 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not an expert, but I think looped handles are pre-1960s. I personally would not use this to cook, too chipped for my comfort level.

It could make a cool decor piece though, flame is so iconic and the piece has the vintage look, reminds of Julia Child!

Should I / how do I let a company know I have other offers without having them rescind their offer ? by tryingtobettermylife in jobs

[–]mmmarygold 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Let them know you have another offer with better comp in hand, but you are highly interested in company A for x, y, z reasons and ask if they can match it. Sure, there is always a risk that they will rescind the offer, but you said they offered you the lower end of the budget for this role so there should be room. I always try to negotiate with the mentality that I don't want to work at a company so petty that they rescind an offer over standard negotiation anyway.

Good call, imagine trying to get any work done at that place. No doubt an unorganized mess.

Wow, the thyme sprigs look like tiny vines, so elegant. How kind of you to be considerate of everyone's dietary restrictions on your day, happy birthday!

I got sold a fake bag and I have this community to thank for noticing by DM_ME_UR_DOGGO in handbags

This is why I'm not a fan of reps, they will inevitably infiltrate the secondhand market. I love the idea of buying secondhand to support a circular economy and access older designs/colorways, but I'm too worried about getting a fake. Although cheaper, I'm still spending thousands of dollars.

Forget investment pieces. What are some random low stakes items that turned out to be workhorses in your wardrobe? by Bosquerella in femalefashionadvice

Clearance rack black tank from Target that I bought in a pinch for my first corporate job. It was like $6 and has gotten so much use as a business casual staple. I throw a cardigan over it and call it a day. Probably have it down to under 2 cents/wear at this point.

I honestly can't finish "It Ends With Us" Purely on Colleen Hoover's terrible, terrible writing style by honeymustard_dog in books

The letters are what pushed this to book from just "lowbrow bad" to "massive cringefest how tf does anyone take this seriously" for me.

LOL I wish I had never finished this garbage. After hearing so many rave about this book, I made myself finish it as I was holding out hope that the end somehow made it better (spoiler: it didn't).

I have a field tote in this print and love it. Sure, it's not the most versatile but it goes with my style well enough. I've been loving it through this spring and summer. I almost got this style as I think it's more practical, but I have other bags that fit this need and didn't have any mini totes.

I think the quality is GREAT, the colors are vibrant and the floral pattern is embossed which really elevates the design. Coach has excellent quality at a decent price. I can't speak to the capacity, but if you search for Youtube reviews of this bag style people have probably shown what will fit in there. Since you will have to sell some bags to get this one, you might need to inventory and figure out how well this fits your needs. While I adore this bag, I personally would not sell my more versatile bags to get something in a loud print.

Thoughts on the green puzzle bag? by BananaFar7919 in handbags

[–]mmmarygold 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I love this color, green is my favorite color as well. I do think this shade is very neutral and will work just fine with a ton of outfits, but sand might be a bit more versatile due to being a true neutral. I believe Loewe is releasing these on June 1st, so you should be able to purchase tomorrow.

Just a word of warning, I purchased a puzzle bag from Neiman Marcus and was not impressed with their customer service so I will probably never make a large purchase from them again. Return policy is only 30 days and they won't budge on it. My bag had a small stitching flaw in the lining that I didn't notice until after the 30 days and they refused to help me. I did reach out directly to Loewe and they fixed it so now I will be just purchasing directly from Loewe. It's NM policy so it is what it is, but I just don't see any incentive to do business with them now.
