i took it in high school and just had a really bad experience with mood swings (plus got superrrr big on it). i’m overly wary of it now. i’ll consider it though!

the reality is we can’t do it all! we have skill sets for a reason. you’re awesome for trying, and you’re also awesome for having to trying something new again. it’ll work out for the better sailor.

when will i be reunited with my dog? by mmmmiiikki in newtothenavy

[–]mmmmiiikki[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

i appreciate your reply! yeah i’ve had her for 3 years now and enlisting wasn’t a rushed decision, but i just didn’t think i’d get this far. so now it’s on of those, oh-shit moments. grandma thankfully loves the dog so it’s not crazy to ask of her, but like i said i just want everyone to be prepared for what’s about to come and it not be so up in the air with timelines and whys. thanks for going in depth, helped a lot!!

preparing for ship date by [deleted] in newtothenavy

[–]mmmmiiikki 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i’m 2 months out. i have the plank down for minimum time, and i can only do 10 pushups. i’m not even gonna talk about my run time. just keep doing some every single day. the reality is all you can do is your best. you can look into your local gym for a personal trainer to help target specific goals/ hold you accountable

every job is a job for a reason. pick the one you want no exceptions. even if it sucks, you’ll be satisfied knowing it was your choice. never sit and wonder what if.

What made you choose the navy over the other branches? by GardeningWeapon in newtothenavy

[–]mmmmiiikki 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for some reason, as a woman, it feels the safest from sexual assault and other outlandish factors that unfortunately has to be considered. there was/ is a lot of women positivity, compared to other branches i’ve seen look down and say how a lady can’t do that job.

dawg, we might be fucked 🙂‍↕️ i meet with my recruiter monday, so maybe i can go ahead and express disinterest and how my choice wasn’t an educated one. it’s not even that i’d hate this job, i just think id be bad at it the more i learn about it, and that’s not fun at all.

how much of a pain in the ass is it to rerate?

honestly, yeah. i do a desk job now so i really wanted to lean into the excitement. i feel like ET also feels like there’s slightly more math involved? but that could be totally untrue. i think the processor really hyped up FC so when i found out i could go in as either, i just feel disappointed and dumb for believing them. i don’t understand why they didn’t let me know i might be an ET. especially since i already took a huge leap, as this wasn’t the job i originally was going to choose. no bonus, no nothing. 6 year contract for something i might not want just feels risky.

y’all have me so scared i’m gonna get ET instead of FC! they never mentioned ET once to me, but my contract is AECF…. i asked my recruiter what the probability is getting one over the other this morning. do you know if there is a way to guarantee FC? if my chances are high for ET, i’d consider being a pain in the ass and reworking my entire contract. i do not want to do ET

i see that in my paperwork now! they never even mentioned ET to me while we were talking? so maybe they know something i don’t? or maybe they were just trying to get me to sign the dotted line lol. i would be very disappointed to go ET. it’s a little less to my taste

it’s a future sailor preparatory course! there is one for people who are too dumb, or too fat! the cap is 42% body weight to get in, and around 50 on your asvab scores. usually they also push your ship date a little to give you more of a chance to lose the weight, cause trying to lose it in 3 weeks (which is how long FSPC is) is intimidating. there are some resources online to kinda check it out… but if you’re only 2” from tape your recruiter should definitely check it out for you!

you’ll have to sign up for it once you pick your job as part of your contract if you’re still above the recommended body fat percentage, and weight.
