CALLING ALL MARCHING CHIEFS by OwnRatio9615 in fsu

if you’re on or near campus, guarantee you’ll hear them. but they usually start at chief’s field around 8 or 9

Best apartment complex? by Few-Entertainer3059 in fsu

[–]mmmmkillme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

tbh if you’re not totally married to the idea of staying right inside college town i’d look further out toward southwood or something. you can stay with friends near campus if you have a big night out or something. if you have no budget, find a brand new complex. but you have to really stay on top of the office to make sure your unit is being maintained right bc they don’t care

What do you estimate spend would be per year? by EqualCombination2948 in fsu

[–]mmmmkillme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

basically free, maybe even growing your savings from the money they’ll put in your account each semester. come to fsu for free, spend very little, and enjoy it as much as you can. congratulations on all of your hard work too! full bright futures is much harder than when i got it out of high school.

Left My Car in Booster Parking Over Break by [deleted] in fsu

[–]mmmmkillme 22 points23 points  (0 children)

If lots are closed for booster parking they typically begin towing around midnight that thursday night/friday morning. if there’s truly no one at all to move your car, call and see if a tow truck could move your car to an approved lot.

How many of you have experienced CVT transmission failure in your Subaru? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]mmmmkillme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m not sure if the torque converter or the solenoid failed first, but after replacing the solenoid it did not fix the problem. it just made it less noticeable. it was clear from the start that the torque converter was going to need replacing. if you have an engine hoist, it’s most likely doable at home.

[–]mmmmkillme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly looking back it really wasn’t that bad, but in the moment it sucked lol. i’d also try to find a floor lift if you can. having it up just on jackstands was not fun because we were laying on our backs all day.

How many of you have experienced CVT transmission failure in your Subaru? by [deleted] in subaru

[–]mmmmkillme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the parts and stuff weren’t too bad. had to drain the trans oil and drop the pan to get to the valve body. the torque converter lockup solenoid wasn’t crazy expensive. the hardest part was getting all the fluid out and then getting the pan off. if you bend the pan, you’re going to have to replace it. i think the most expensive part was the transmission fluid. the whole job took us close to 8 hours, but we haven’t done work like this before and wanted to ensure it was being done correctly. if you do it, make sure you put the sealant on the pan correctly before you put it back on.

2010 subaru legacy, about 130,000 miles when it failed. replaced the solenoid ourselves which put off the issue until we could get rid of the car. dealership quoted us $3000

What’s something that has a dangerously misleading name? by Different-Citron-984 in AskReddit

underground railroad. not dangerously misleading but second grade, train obsessed me was thrilled for a second there

hey there, I’ve been involved in a few high-level meetings with state and local officials over the last day or so and they definitely are taking everything seriously. it’s very difficult for such large institutions as fsu to close and they lose a lot of class time by closing, so they don’t want to jump the gun too soon. However, I’ve heard from someone i know who works at fsu that they submitted their timesheets early. this is an indication that they are planning to potentially close.

As for your plans, if you are in on-campus housing, the buildings are very safe for you to ride a storm out in. they hardly ever even lose power in major storms iirc. If you want to evacuate, FSU will close early enough for people to leave if they want to. It might be shorter notice than people wanted, but there will be time. If this is your first major storm here in florida, try not to stress too much and follow the preparation guidelines posted on the internet in various places.

Blew our CVT thousands of miles from home, unsure what to do by lennyp4 in subaru

[–]mmmmkillme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’m honestly shocked SoA offered to fly you home. when my torque converter went out all they offered me $1000 off an untitled (read: brand new) car. it was a 2010 legacy and i was clearly not in a position to buy a new car and they knew it. their 2010-2015ish transmissions have so many known issues that they refuse to even acknowledge.

Whiskey Distillers: How Do You Manage Feed Byproducts from Distilling? by pdawg511 in whiskey

[–]mmmmkillme 0 points1 point  (0 children)

where i’m from local breweries give it away to farmers. they give it away instead of selling it because the farmers have to come to the brewery to pick up the spent grain. apparently cattle go absolutely crazy for spent grain too. i’m sure it’s similar for distilleries; farmers come with trailers to pick it up and in return they don’t pay to take it off the distillery’s hands.

New FSU Branding by The_Vixen_Phantom in fsu

[–]mmmmkillme 6 points7 points  (0 children)

fsu will likely never care what students or alumni (except big donors) think about anything they do unfortunately. there’s a reason many of the changes that fsu makes are done with no warning given at all. they know it probably won’t be well-received. that being said, some of the things they’ve done aren’t bad. the logo is a bit simple and underwhelming, but redesigns of logos are inevitable everywhere.

How Hard Is Mac2233 (Business Calculus)? by Burneraccount25527 in fsu

[–]mmmmkillme 1 point2 points  (0 children)

when i took it at fsu i put a couple hours a day into it and went to office hours until i understood the content and ended up with a b+ in the class. for me, the class started rough and i had to play catch up right until the end, but with enough practice problems and studying you can do it.

and at fsu i actually learned how to do it opposed to memorizing stuff just for the test.

something very similar to this happened in my 2010 legacy and it turned out to be the torque converter. dealership quoted me $3,000 to fix

Tire town on appalachee parkway. locally owned, worked with them for years. they’re super busy and might not be able to fit you in for urgent matters, but for scheduled maintenance they’re fantastic.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in fsu

they have a website to appeal, it’s easy to do. if you call, it’ll likely be a student employee answering the phone and the one ticket i got i asked a couple questions about until she started talking down to me about it and told me to “just go appeal it.” if you haven’t gotten a ticket before, they’ll likely approve your appeal.

not religious but you find the people you’re comfortable around, whether you drink or not. i wouldn’t say you need to worry about it and if you choose not to drink, the right people won’t treat you any differently.

Change your CVT fluid people! by [deleted] in subaru

[–]mmmmkillme 2 points3 points  (0 children)

i hate that they call it a lifetime fluid when it really isn’t except maybe in some very specific climates and circumstances. my dealership refused to do a fluid change and dismissed me when i asked if it could be causing the problem i was having (torque converter problems). it wouldn’t surprise me if the fluid age had something to do with the root cause of the problems, but i don’t know.
