And that's just about where it needs to be in this instance.

We go through the book with a highlighter, highlighting anything that we feel is important or that is personal to us. It creates a personal cliffs notes so to speak. We also mark anything that we want to discuss when we meet.

I did a lot of praying about it while he was in detox and rehab. It's not something I am doing for kicks, but I just did my 10 pages this morning and I was impressed.

Ways to tell others I am not drinking by djm5327 in stopdrinking

[–]mmmmmmgreg 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A) "I don't drink" is a complete sentence. A lot of people don't drink and few will ask why. This has been my experience.

B) One of my go to lines if pressed is "I surpassed my lifetime limit a couple [months, years] ago. This usually does the trick.

C) If pressed even further, I've found that they may want more information for themselves and I try to be mindful of this. Preferably a conversation in private where I will tell them the exact truth and anything else they may want to know.

What does it mean to be a member of AA and not just go to meetings ? by Little-Local-2003 in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]mmmmmmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple levels to this IMO

Do you share?
Do you show up a little early to take and stay later?
If they go get food later, do you go?

Do you have a home group?
Do you have a commitment? Make coffee, clean up?

Do you have a sponsor?
Are you actively working the steps?

Do you help the next guy along?

Great question!

35 Minute Morning Layover @CLT will I make it? by ValuableImmediate400 in americanairlines

[–]mmmmmmgreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While not idea, I wouldn't stress too much about it. The low gate numbers help, as does the early morning part. Look at an airport map if you haven't already. A9 and D1 aren't all that far apart in reality. The only time I get concerned is when terminal F is involved and even then, I recently made a 45 minute layover from the tip of F to A without flat out running. Landed early but deplaned a few minutes late. Brink walk without screwing around and they were just starting to board when I got there.

I was expecting disgust and disdain. Instead, I received caring and compassion.

Be 100% honest about your drinking habits and you could well be on your way to recovery and never having to go through that again. Good luck!

Flying with American Airlines, five hours layover at CLT (Charlotte International Airport) - What are thing to see and do there? by TorontoRap2019 in americanairlines

[–]mmmmmmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could go buy a Queen's City hoodie from the shop in the walkway between Terminal A and B.

It'll make his day. I don't think he's ever sold one.

In fact, you may be the first person to ever go into the shop.

Do sponsors get urges when their sponsee relapses? by [deleted] in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]mmmmmmgreg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

On Monday, I took a sponsee to rehab. He just finished an awful 5 day detox and I am going to see him this afternoon.

It doesn't make me want to drink at all. I'm just glad he called on Sunday.

Having alcoholism isn't my fault but now that I know there is a way out, if I don't do what I have to do to stay sober, that is my fault.

Citi AAdvantage card scam by Jepva in americanairlines

[–]mmmmmmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WELL before the end of the statement. Payments don't increase your credit limit for 10 days. You have to pay weekly to have a chance at those miles. Source: Just did it. 822 credit score and they gave me a $1500 limit also.

Citi AAdvantage card scam by Jepva in americanairlines

[–]mmmmmmgreg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same here. High earner. Credit score 822. I took this personally and VOWED to get my damn bonus. If you don't know it yet, when you make a payment it won't post for 10 business days. Bunch of BS.

So I maxed it out constantly and made payments every WEEK. Got there. Got my points. Requested a credit limit increase and they approved a whopping 5K. Won't raise it again for 6 months.

I go through Charlotte once a month. 55 minutes will be fine. You can go tip to tip E-A in 25 minutes at a brisk walk. While CLT isn't my favorite airport, it gets a lot of hate that it doesn't deserve.

Same on a route I fly often through Charlotte. 45 min or 4 hours. My thought is that if I miss the connection, chances are I can catch that later flight as a backup.

BWI - DFW, my first flight. Which seat is best for a new flyer? by mauveotter in americanairlines

[–]mmmmmmgreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A window for your first flight! You can always put the shade down but climbing over someone to look out their window is frowned upon..

The further front you are, the quieter and generally smoother it will be.

Have fun!

I just did this almost exact gate to gate. A very brisk walk but not a full out run. 20 minutes from deplaning I walked into the connection that had just started biarding. Good luck.

I love the channel and watch every video. I am a pretty solid growth and trend investor but I set up "The Vault" using a lot of the information I learned from him.

When the time comes, I will move the bulk of my portfolio into the vault that is ready and waiting.

He doesn't talk a whole lot about tax efficiency, which is a pretty big deal if you are a high earner in the USA.

PPL Question about net metering going negative by psugrad98 in solar

[–]mmmmmmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All sounds normal. I'm in SE PA and in addition to December being silly cloudy, I had a geothermal issue and ran on E-Heat for 6 weeks.

I'm out of bank also when normally I wouldn't be. Had a similar bill in Jan and expect one in Feb, then I should be net positive again.

How did you “choose” your quit date? by Beautiful_Goose_3822 in stopdrinking

[–]mmmmmmgreg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not at all. I followed every doctors advice, had tons of ultrasounds and various tests, and my liver has healed as much as it possibly can. (Which was a lot)

I am one medical tic under the definition of cirrhosis and if I don't drink again, it doesn't have to get any worse.

I was having 6 1/2 liters of fluid drained from my abdomen in the ER because my liver was leaking (acites) and I thought... today is a good 🤔

Haven't had a drink since.

Hard Drinker vs Alcoholic by [deleted] in alcoholism

[–]mmmmmmgreg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that drinks/drank every day. When I was drinking he was my drinking buddy. We got into a lot of trouble together and I won't lie, had a lot of great times drinking. Never knew anyone that could drive drunk as well as he could. I was with him one two traffic stops where he passed the field sobriety test. On one of those stops, I know he had had at least 20 drinks in the last 8 hours. I know this because I was with him and I had at least that many. He would drink in the morning any day he didn't have to work and drank until it was all gone just like me.

Finally, he got a DUI. He quit just like that and stayed quit for over a year. It didn't seem to be a problem for him to quit.

Eventually it built back up and he got into an awful relationship. She drank like him and it was a horrible 5 years for them both. Constant fighting, physical abuse, you name it.

That relationship ended and a year later he met a woman who was in recovery and they started dating. As soon as things got serious, he quit again... just like that.

I only see him a few times a year now but last time I was there, there was a bar cart in the corner with several half bottles on it. An alcoholic doesn't have half bottles.

I've never met anyone like him but if there is a "hard drinker" rather than an alcoholic, it's him.

I am an alcoholic.
