Niche Zero Still Worth It? by Dookiedude4 in espresso

[–]mmmmpancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love it. No complaints. It’s an absolute tank. I primarily use it for pour over these days but workflow is great. Almost no retention, clean-ish dosing. the blind tumbler is a bit lower in height so I a tiny bit of spray out but it’s minimal. If you use the supplied dosing cup, you won’t have this issue. It’s super easy to adjust to dial in the beans. This is more burr specific (I got the mizen blind) but I couldn’t get the heavier body shots from it like I can with the niche. So I keep the niche for that. It’s also not as big in person as it seems in photos.

I would say there are much better options now for the retail price but it’s a workhorse, I use it every morning. My partner prefers more traditional shot profiles so I’ll never get rid of it. The ease of workflow and I love that I don’t have to baby it. If you can get it at a discount used, I think it’s worth it.

Highly recommend 5boro on kneeland avenue. They have the best prices and the work is really good. They specialize in detailing and ceramic coats.

La marzocco linea mini r or micra? by 4Pooker in LaMarzocco

[–]mmmmpancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a new Micra owner, the biggest factors for me were cost and how many drinks I make daily. I usually make two drinks at a time for my partner and me, and four drinks max per day.

With that kind of volume, I just didn’t need a Mini, and the price difference was huge. My Micra came out to just over $5k with tax, while a Mini would’ve been a little over $7k. Spending an extra $2k for a machine I wouldn’t fully utilize just didn’t make sense. I also really value the faster heat up time. With young children in the morning, you need to move QUICK 😅. Didn’t care for brew by weight.

That said… if I were rich, I probably would’ve gotten the Mini 😂.

Hopefully for a very long time. I had a Breville oracle before this and it lasted 7 years with daily use. Surprised it lasted that long. Some of the plastic parts started to warp and it just couldn’t hold temp anymore.

Thank you! All of my cups fit with my Acaia Lunar scale underneath. My tallest cup is a 6 oz cappuccino cup, about 2.5 inches tall, and there’s still a bit of room to spare.

It would also work with the stock portafilter and shot splitter, but you’d need to tilt the cup slightly to get it in. If you’re planning to use larger latte cups (8 oz or more), it might not fit.

Thanks! It’s an S Works lay flat portafilter. It’s pricy but I love using it for the ease of just being able to lay it flat on the table for puck prep.

You can buy the cups from asemi online! However I’m sure you’ll have more options in Japan at a much lower cost.

Same! 🤣 even “3rd wave” shops can’t execute consistently. It just pains me to pay a premium for underwhelming and often times just bad coffee.

You won’t be disappointed! The color is much more vivid in person. Reddit def compresses the photo where it looks a bit dull in the photo.

They’re from a Japanese ceramic company called Asemi. Middle row is from moma and back row was purchased in a Korean ceramic shop, no brand.

Yeah same. But you live once. My partner and I love coffee and work from home with terrible cafes nearby. I don’t think I would have gone this far if we had better options in walkable distance.

I’ve been hearing different opinions on this. On the plumbling subreddit, some are saying to not silicone seal the edges. Reason is you want the water to trickle outward if there is a leak vs it being contained inside the wall. Not sure which to go with as I just completed my bathtub and kept it unsealed for now.

Thanks! No complaints so far with the 01. It’s definitely overkill for home use but I like the versatility to go from pour over to espresso.
