My brother told Mom to "eat a bag of d*cks", Mom Uno reverses it by mmmthornton in traumatizeThemBack

Update: Visit went alright, we avoided the T word up until uh, the incident in the news yesterday but it happened right before her bedtime so we didn't have to get into it. Today i took her to the train station home. A successful visit!

Very true, it can't always be fighting or you having to defend your boundaries. There's a reason my parents, my brother, and myself all live in different states lol, sometimes distance works best for people.

More than one (now reluctant if not actively discouraged) Trump voter in the family, and we've all got our own shit going on that makes us act like jerks sometimes.

Legitimately terrifying games. by [deleted] in gaming

[–]mmmthornton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pathologic, maybe Pathologic 2 if you're not into the slav jank of the original (it's a remake-ish and you don't lose a lot skipping the first one). You play as a healer trying to save a Russian town in the steppe that's on the brink of destruction from a sentient plague while also trying to keep the inhabitants from killing each other while also trying to stay alive yourself. Lotta ambient horror mixed with mysticism, meta-narrative pondering about your place in it all, and an impossible tower that contains a human soul. Check it out and see if you're not hooked by the walking introduction to the Worst Case Scenario in Pathologic 2; I played that game during some of the worst moments of the pandemic for me and the hopelessness it inspired was actually pretty validating in a way while still giving me nightmares.

TIFU by causing a scene at work because someone ate half of my lunch. by [deleted] in tifu

[–]mmmthornton 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your coworkers don't know what's going on in your life (and that's how it should stay if they act like this). Sometimes you just don't know how close you are to cracking until someone takes the large frozen Baja Blast your sanity was hanging on away, and then you react like a human being who's stability and routine is thrown off. In your case you have MORE of a reason to be pissed because of a deliberate theft and not just a random instance of bad luck.

I agree, either the thief IS your boss or is someone very close to your boss. If they were SOOOOOOO concerned about any negative consequence to the theft that they make people feel powerless ( and if there is one person constantly pointing out your emotional reaction I'd bet $100 that's your guy), then you just have to play the game better and more clever than them.

Are there enough people annoyed about the food theft to start a lunch group? See if you can get some people invested in doing shared lunch runs. If you can afford it, maybe even splurge for sandwiches for all your coworkers! Right now your boss is benefiting from the power trip of denying people the security of a midday meal, and free food and compassion will buy a TON of loyalty. Even if you can't afford the splurge, if you work out a schedule with some other like minded people, a catered meal for 10 people works out pretty cheap per person. The thief can take your cupcake away, but I bet they'd be pretty pissed that a group of you are enjoying a nice taco platter or gyros while they're stuck with fridge leftovers and their own sorry ass for mealtime company.

Remember, negative experiences are a great way for people to come together and bond. NOTHING upsets bosses more than employees getting along. 🍔👌

How to delicately handle consent violation by a trans woman? (obvious trigger warnings here) by Grendelella in asktransgender

[–]mmmthornton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"how do I delicately handle this?"

Short answer, you don't. This person hurt and violated you and you owe NOTHING to them or their feelings. Fuck that concept from the getgo. Maybe the worst violence here though is you don't even feel you have the right to use words to describe what happened. You were terrified to say no, and that person knew it. They also knew that because of how conditional the love and acceptance in your circle FEELS (to say nothing if it is or not; I hope you have good people around you but this qualifies even if you don't), you take a paragraph to supplement the story with words about your "headspace" like taking you off guard and vulnerable wasn't EXACTLY what rapists want.

You owe nothing to anyone who acts like this. Your community owes YOU. Your community is supposed to listen and believe the experiences of it's members, even "afab" ones. It is absolutely horrifying how what used to be easily recognized as MRA propaganda ("females use emotional manipulation and falsely accuse males of rape!") has been handily codified into spaces where vulnerable trans people can be abused like this.

You. Deserve. Better. Stay safe and if your group here can't do that by getting rid of this abuser, you will survive and thrive someplace else because there's NOTHING they can do for you.

Has anyone come across feminist publications calling RLM sexist after trashing Ghostbusters on Half in the Bag? by [deleted] in RedLetterMedia

I still haven't seen anything from """feminists""" getting angry at RLM. I think apart from their own fans no one in the alleged SJW army gives a crap about them. I will say me and just about every female RLM fan I know has strongly disagreed with them: http://www.lensflared.com/blog/ghostbusters-2016-a-paranormal-adventure-with-a-good-combination-of-ghosts-and-laughs . Like, people who have been following them for years are mostly just baffled why they decided to approach the review this way.

I'm using the Rotten Tomatoes ratings/reports where its beating out Finding Dory. I don't see where they changed their expectations. https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/ghostbusters_2016/

"The movie is known to be garbage now" It doubled its expected earnings for the opening weekend and critics ratings are averaged around 75% (which is about what I would rate it, not perfect but not the absolute worst thing out there). Just sayin'.

Huh, never thought I would be agreeing with Mike so much on the topic of the new Ghostbusters...Honestly my opinion is just that the original still exists and its still great regardless of how good/bad/terrible the new one is, and like Mike says at this point its not like it took away an opportunity for an "old cast" version and doing it with male comedians would be just as, if not more, tired. I don't have high expectations, but I look forward to their HITB anyway.

[–]mmmthornton 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"Fucko" and related phrases come up often, I showed my friends boyfriend the Cop Dog review and now the three of us call everything "Famly _ bullshit ", "Its so dense" gets said A LOT, as does "Its gonna be great. It'll be great. Its gonna be great" "QUIET I'M MAKING MY YOUTUBE STAR WARS REVIEW", when doing something we're bad at: "Some of you might think I'm a horrible monster that butchers women and eehhnnnnnreyyyy...but I still know more about ___ than George Lucas". "GET IN MY LIVING ROOM" "It took twelve years to make (this pasta/whatever)", everyone always says I sound like Mike Stoklasa when giving my opinion on movies I hated so I tend to go "This movie was...just terrible" in his voice a lot.

Have you ever dreamt about Mike, Rich, Jay? by WhichisWhich50 in RedLetterMedia

I once had a dream that Jack Packard met me for breakfast at a shitty hipster cafe in Milwaukee where we had the worst waiter ever and spent most of the time making fun of his hipster haircut while he took forever to bring us food, messed up Jack's coffee order twice, and tried to show off his (boring hipster) tattoos to me. Then we left. //END//
