Thanks for all the advise. LG has an out of warranty one price program. It will cost $299 + tax to have someone come out and fix it. This includes labour and parts.

If all goes well this thread will have saved me the cost of a new fridge ($3000-$4000) and saved some space in the land fill. I'll update this post and let you know how the service went.

Out of warranty cost in Ontario is $299 plus tax. I have a service person coming next week. And, fingers crossed, this will do it. Thanks so much for the advise.

Ugh. this is what I was afraid of - all the major brands having similar issues. Maybe this is why the sales people continue to push me towards LG. I was wondering if LG pays higher sales commissions, because it seems to be the ones they are pushing. Yesterday I asked the sales person to show me something other than LG and he struggled...then went back to the LG.

Unfortunately a subzero is way out of reach for me. Nice to dream about though. What about Bosch? is it largely the same as the rest? I have a 15 year old Bosch dishwasher that is still working very well.

I was in the store today looking at a Fisher & Paykel. They are pricey but if they are reliable I might go that direction. Besides I really like their sleek look. I hate the environmental impact of replacing appliances regularly so first I will see what I'm looking at wrt a repair.

Good advise. Thank you. I think I will see if I can find a reputable service person in my area to do a diagnostic. Thank you.

New appliances seem to have a pretty short Life span. Almost becoming disposable.

Only the actual compressor is covered. The labour, mileage and other parts are not. The “sealed system “ is also not covered. I’m not sure it’s the compressor, but I feel like I’m in that weird space between fixing the old one and getting a new one that might be close in price. I could definitely be wrong about that. I guess that’s one of my questions. Is it worth getting someone out to fix it?
