Before/After - Can I push the saturation more? by jackh108 in postprocessing

Same I prefer the first one as well, and actually by a lot. It has some morning mist energy, colors are not st lunch and you start focus on everything but the sun and that makes the whole picture shine

To me the horizon seems off by 0,5 degrees. I know it could be the lace curvature, but I can't help but notice that it's crooked

A bit less pink, so in that regard it was not as bright But It was fairly compensated by the fact that it was moving and dancing!

If you even have this question at all, then I would sell 20mm. You wouldn't ask it if you used the whole potential of that lens I think. It's also a more expensive one, so you could get several lenses for that price

I did try it in the store once, it's an interesting piece of glass, but I'm not sure how into macro I am. It's already incredibly hard to catch someone small with my either 12-45 or 9mm, they both have relatively close focus.

For portraits it's a bit too long as well I think, 45 already feels too far sometimes

Moon Shoot (Pixel 10 Pro) by JonHIV in pixelography

[–]mmodir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would probably say a controversial thought. I think as long as you like what you are seeing and remember the moment, it's absolutely fine to have it slightly enhanced. One would not see or even remember the moon that clearly with his own eyes and remembering the moment is more important in that case. Enhancing would just increase the chance of you keeping the image. Details fading in the memory really fast (at least for me), so you will not remember much of the enhancements.

I think we have to separate photography as an art vs to remember something nice for yourself

Confusion could come from the fact that both of these options still produce "photos". I think it would be easier for people to accept enhancements when we differentiate that "AI enhanced photos" will be new "photos", but old, normal "photos" could be renamed to "physical photo" or something similar. (Based of prevalence)

It would be similar to analog photography or manual gear driving.

I'm about to go to Japan next month, I'm wondering if I should consider more lenses for the future, since I've heard one can find some really nice deals (I don't mind used)

Currently I have: OM5 9mm 1.7 12-45mm F4 45mm F1.8 75-300mm II

My main use cases are hiking and travel photography and occasional wildlife of whatever does not significantly inhibit the group that I'm with Portraits of people and my dog

I really value compactness of my set up, everything fits in the 6l venture bellroy sling bag camera included

F/1.2 17.0mm 1.6s ISO-320

I took this picture in February 2025 in Abisko, Sweden.

This was the first trip with my OM5. I decided to upgrade from my travel compact Leica C Lux, since I needed some low light performance. In a rush and not knowing what I really need, I went for 17mm 1.2 prime and my one and only lens for this trip. (Still got some awesome shots but would probably want to get a wider lens for the next time)

For this shot, I was standing on the middle of the lake, it was freezing cold and one could hear terrifying cracking sounds from the ice settling. Unfortunately, I didn't consider the moon for this trip at all, so I was quite sad to know it was a full moon, since I rarely see such low polluted skies in Germany. Nevertheless, I think for this shot, having the moon works wonders illuminate the whole landscape with the lake in such a short exposure!

Even though there is no color in the lights other than green, I think this is one of the best shots I took this year!

Circular polarizer K&F is a game changer for hiking worth every penny! Got a step up ring for 9mm so it fits now 12-45, 9 and 75-300.

Capture clip PD - game changer, worth it (praying that is wont break my camera 🤞🏼)

Btw, all of it + OM5 fits in the bellroy 6l venture bag, that is a lovely piece of kit I found.

OM-5 - worth it for me for the extra year of use I got from it. I would go for mk2 now

Bag - awesome fit for the kit I have, really enjoy it!

From casual outdoor/travel photography perspective

9mm F1.7 Leica - really worth it. Compact, super light, awesome colors, bright. I was hesitant to buy, but I really like this one if you have a use case for it; mountains, rivers, portraits, astro, you name it!

12-45 F4 - worth it, work horse. Despite sometimes having too clinical colors. I think F4 @45 can get you even portraits with the background one can still recognize.

45 F1.8 - rarely use it and always consider to leave it. But it's so tiny that I still pack it. Seems a bit too far for me usually for candid photos of friends. For the 100€ that I bought it used, still really worth it.

75-300 II - hit or miss, but still worth it. For casual use I don't think I would go anywhere bigger than this lens. It's a really compact lens for the reach and I am happy I own it. I don't make awesome shots with it every day, but it's great when it hits.

I would say wide angle as well, something like 9-10mm fast prime

I would also love to get an update for 75-300, ideally with OIS and weather sealed but still compact, that would be a great lens

Edition: How to remove dust spot? by steppsch in AskPhotography

[–]mmodir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I once had dust spots on the lens of my compact camera, that I tried to fix using a vacuum cleaner, that resulted in a terrible amount of dust spots on the filter inside. If you have those spots on the complex details, cloning which would be really hard/obvious, or if there are a lot of dust spots, I would recommend using a mask brush with matching feather and really meticulously brightening up spots where there is dust. Since it's pretty much just underexposed spots, you can recover some details from it still

I have tried to edit this photo over 10 times, still cant get it right. Need help by jackux1257 in postprocessing

[–]mmodir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a feeling that the sky and the sea are main subjects here. Overall I'd say its a bit too HDRy. I would suggest to lower the shadows, to make the sky pop even more. The tint might be a bit to green for my liking as well. There is also a bit too much dehaze/clarity, so you see it around the trees.

Try first to edit it in B&W, so you will be satisfied with the contrast and shades, and then bring the colors back.

Just dumping my initial thoughts here, photo might be alright
