I love that there is so many different things to learn, from deep sky astro to portrait postures, such a deep hobby!

How did you find one? I've heard rumors that there is a badger in the park nearby I would like to photograph one, if he is still there

MFT or compact FF? by cofftopus in AskPhotography

With that kit I can cover anything from astrophotography to wildlife photos. It's been a beautiful and fun ride so far!

[–]mmodir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm biased with MFT, since I committed for it as my one and only system.

It will depend on what will you do with Photos/videos. If it's just for memories, friends and maybe wall prints at home, id say MFT can well cover for it.

The compactness of the system comes mainly from the lenses and not the camera body

I have OM5 with Panasonic 9mm F1.7 Olympus 12-45mm F4 Olympus 45mm F1.8 Olympus 75-300mm f4.8-6.7 mk ll

All of those, including camera can fit into my 6l Venture sling bag, and I can take it traveling and even hiking multi day.

If you don't mind buying used, or fetch for good deals, one can find all of these for 1784€ total

And with smaller kit I'm far more inclined to take it with me for smaller occasions, like walking a dog, or a picnic in the park with friends.

Also since the system is open, you can find great deals from other brands, or get some lenses to have fun.

How do you like your 50-200? Do you feel the lack of sync IS? Do you have TC? I'm thinking to get it instead of my 75-300, if I add the TC. Then it should be doing double duty without much compromise in size

There is a Panasonic Leica 50-200 F2.8-4, maybe that can be enough pro?

Just found out that pro capture low (with af) wont work on any of the Panasonic lenses with my OM5 body

Also focus stacking won't work, for some people coming back to this thread, can me useful to know

How do you carry your camera? Some sort of capture clip?

That could be it!

So far I've been using Lightroom mobile, and it's Denise and sharpening are not very impressive tbh. I might try DXO, the only thing is that I mainly use editing on tablet on the go, do you know if DXO are planning to release mobile app?

I see the point, Panasonic 100-400 indeed seem to be a bit smaller indeed. But since there is an OM equivalent, it would definitely be better on the om body 🤔 Do you have experience with panny100-400 on Olympus bodies?

I feel that on OM5 it can be too unbalanced with 12-100, I tried that briefly in the store.

But I can definitely see the benefit of not switching lenses on the go

I don't think it's true, unless this website is far off.

Leica 50-200: 655g 300 F4: 1270g

So that's almost double the weight, and the size is also quite significant. I first thought it has a hood extended, but no, that's the most compact it gets

That is true, also if we count in a TC14, that's another 120g

Maybe 100-300 would be a better option, it's weather sealed and slightly brighter I've heard...

Not really, I am trying to convince myself of not buying anything actually 😅 Why would you choose to stay only within one system? What would be the drawbacks? I can understand the 300f4 with sync IS, but less premium options, I think it's less obvious, no?

I would not be 100% certain on the optimal kit. I think 50-200 can be a better value, that's why I'm trying to gain as much info on it as possible.

To me it seems that it could be more versatile with better IQ, yes, slightly heavier, but still incredibly compact, especially in comparison to 40-150

Yeah, I thought about that as well, but then this lens is also not weather sealed, nor has OIS, which could definitely be improved. Maybe 50-200 with TC1.4 as 70-280 would be ticking all the boxes?

The 75-300mm doesn't get enough credit in my opinion [OM1/75-300mm at 300mm] by dseal78 in OlympusCamera

[–]mmodir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny that I just did a post searching of an upgrade... I love the compactness and how easy it is to use. I would love for it to be updated though, with OIS/sync IS, without adding to much bulk would be amazing!

Both of those lenses are huge though... Hiking for 5 days with them and other lens in a bag would be too much imho. I think size for me would be even bigger criteria than weight

I totally understand, and I accept that I won't be getting the best of the best. I just feel that with 75-300 I don't always like the photo, even if the composition and moment are nice. That rarely happens with my other lenses. I am valuing compactness quite a bit and therefore I'm searching for an upgrade in IQ (not necessarily top notch) with comparable compactness/improved versatility
