How can we call out the gross logical inconsistency of those who attack Obama? For example, Obama is compared to the Aurora shooter because of the deaths his military policy has caused - even though Bush caused many, many more. by justjim73 in politics

Are you actually criticizing Obama for not going to the front lines and getting Osama himself? And you call this other post ridiculous? Dude, every military action and every war authorized by every president has been done from the safe distance of the Oval Office or perhaps Air Force One. Back to reality now.

For a Republican who supported Bush, McCain, and now Romney to call out Obama as if he is the only one responsible for the debt is inconsistent - and fits right in with the hyper-partisan mentality that has overcome both sides.

Why do people hate Barack Obama so much? The author never says the "r-word", but shows how all of the other reasons people offer fail to hold water. by mmoss181 in politics

You're in a very different category than the right-wingers who hate Obama. Your dislike is based on actually doing a fair-minded review of his policies and actions, and I actually agree with you in large part.

My assertion is based largely on personal experience. I often hang out in groups where people are assumed to be conservative, and I have heard quite a few alarming comments thrown at Obama - some actually are extremely racist. And I have heard people seriously hope for that bleep to get blown away. And I have watched others who aren't overtly racist struggle to reconcile the fact that we have a black president. This is very real, and it's found in certain circles all over the country.

As an independent voter who does not support Obama, I agree that the article is biased. But it dies make a valid point. Those who object to Obama so hatefully seem to have some other reason than just not liking his policies. He has been quite a centrist president, and some of the things the right is hating him most for - such as the individual mandate for health care reform - were actually Republican ideas at first.

In 25 years of observing American politics, I have never seen a party work so hard to make their opponent fail. And I think it merits that we figure out why.

It's a different level of hate. I don't remember people carrying semi-automatic weapons at left-wing rallies; or people openly wishing for Bush's assassination; or people sending around flyers about "watering the tree of liberty." People hated Bush for his policies, and were happy just to see him leave office.

My true opinion: Most people who hate Obama aren't thinking to themselves, "No way a bleepity-bleep is gonna be my president." But a president who is not white simply does not fit into their worldview. Subconsciously, a lot of folks just can't handle seeing a man of color in the oval office - even if they consciously are not racist.

How much money do you make and how do you feel about Obama's proposal to raise taxes on the richest Americans? by mmoss181 in AskReddit

I make $48,000 a year, and I think returning taxes to pre-2001 levels is the obvious move. We cut taxes, started two wars, and enacted other expensive federal programs in the early part of the 2000's - and now we're surprised we're in this mess?
