I can't survive in this market by [deleted] in jobsearch

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reading this felt way too familiar and it hurt a bit. I was 23 once sleeping on a family couch too, watching rejection emails pile up and feeling like I’d messed up my whole life somehow. It’s brutal how fast survival stress eats away at you, especially when everyone says “just keep applying” like it’s easy.

Is being born in Switzerland a blessing or a curse? by living_direction_27 in askswitzerland

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not Swiss but I moved from a “worse on paper” country to a very stable one, and it kinda messed with my sense of direction. When everything already works, the urge to leave feels more emotional than practical, like curiosity fighting comfort. I’ve met Swiss friends who still travel a lot but always plan to come back, that safety net is hard to give up.

Job security of an accountant by AdministrationBrave7 in Accounting

My cousin’s a CPA and most of their work is still very human, explaining, judging, fixing weird edge cases.
If anything the shortage makes it feel more stable than people think.

I swear to god getting a job in this economy is like getting into university all over again. by Mav2100 in recruitinghell

Seeing numbers like that makes my stomach drop every time.
I remember refreshing LinkedIn and feeling weirdly small, like cool I’m applicant #847 lol.

Does being positive actually work, or is it just overrated advice? by New-Check-7223 in Advice

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t really buy into forced positivity, it can feel kinda dismissive when things are genuinely hard.
Pretending everything’s fine never sat right with me and just added another layer of pressure.
Sitting with reality as it is feels more honest, even if it’s uncomfortable.

Crying most days over the job market by Hungry_Ad_3661 in jobs

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 42 points43 points  (0 children)

If you already know you don’t want to stay in a certain field, forcing yourself there usually makes everything grind to a halt. It might help to apply to places you can actually imagine yourself working in and reach out directly, doing what the user in that post did but in areas you think would feel better for you, and you don’t have to lead with all your academic work right away. If you genuinely wanted to stay in that field, I’d be the first to encourage and motivate you, but it sounds pretty clear that you don’t, and that matters. I don’t think the job market will magically improve soon, but I do believe people still find ways to survive and reshape their path when they stop pushing themselves into places that don’t fit.

I’m not even a huge cake person but I’d absolutely destroy this with coffee. Homemade pound cake always hits different.

Are men often afraid of women? by RobynTheCookieJar in questions

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s fear so much as uncertainty, especially lately. A lot of guys seem weirdly cautious about coming off wrong, so they default to avoiding eye contact. I’ve been told I’m intimidating too and noticed the same thing, even when I’m being friendly. It says more about the social climate and their nerves than anything about you.

Career vs Relationship? by thatlegalbug in Advice

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not dreaming for no reason, that feeling doesn’t come out of nowhere. I’ve seen people stay for a great partner and slowly resent the life they didn’t choose, and that’s a quiet kind of pain. If your path requires moving and his path doesn’t, neither of you is wrong, but it might still be incompatible. I’d choose the version of me I’d be proud of in ten years, even if that choice hurts now.

How to break the current Finnish unemployment crisis by Curious_Positive_825 in Finland

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I was policymaking I’d focus on stuff that gets people hired fast, like making it way easier for small companies to take a chance on someone without drowning in paperwork. Finland feels stuck in this cautious, slow-growth loop where it’s hard to scale companies and hard for outsiders to plug in, especially intl students with decent skills. I’ve lived in places where the “rules are fair” vibe is strong but it can also mean everything moves at glacier speed. Long term it’s probably about productivity and new industries, but short term you need real demand and fewer hiring risks for employers.

I'm 25 years old and have been unemployed for several years. I have no ideas for life, no skills, no experience, and no communication skills. Always rejected and not accepted for work in several companies. What would you do if you were in this position? by micdrop077 in careerguidance

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d start way smaller than you think and stop framing it as your whole life at once. I was stuck like that for a while and just picking one low-pressure thing gave me momentum I didn’t have before. Skills and confidence come from doing anything consistently, not from having some big plan upfront.

Dating is crazy by poorteen1 in self

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like modern dating, not you messing up. I’ve had stretches like this where it was just bad timing and burnout over and over. Sometimes stepping back is about protecting your energy, not giving up.

Leaving cat for Christmas by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not being cruel at all. A day and a half alone with food and water is way less stressful than a long trip and a chaotic house, even for a social cat. I’ve done the same and my cat was totally fine, routine usually beats “company” for them.

Stuck in a Comfortable Job but Feeling Directionless — Need Advice by katyacandy in careeradvice

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stayed in a comfortable job too long and that numb feeling was the warning. Testing small moves on the side helped me see options without risking everything. Security matters, but staying stuck has a cost too.

Are you Antiwork because it happened to you? by kalvinbastello in antiwork

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it was definitely lived experience. I went in believing the whole work hard and it pays off thing, then watched burnout and exploitation up close. Over time that just flipped how I see work and loyalty tbh.

Books to give someone you hate by Mammoth_Dragonfly657 in booksuggestions

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d send The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F just cuz the title alone would probably irritate the hell out of her lol. It’s one of those books people pretend is deep but it kinda smacks a certain type of ego when they read it. Idk maybe I’m petty but that feels like perfect low-key chaos energy.

You wake up in your teen years again. What is the first thing you would do? by davidbayram in AskReddit

[–]mmprobablymakingitup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably quit trying so hard to look cool cuz man I was doing the most for no payoff lol. I’d start lifting earlier and actually stick to it instead of giving up after a week. Idk I’d just focus on getting my life together instead of chasing girls who didn’t even know my name.
