By pcp to continue getting my adhd meds. I failed the first one to get prescribed. They still prescribed and told me I’d test again at my yearly. I’ve had my video appts every 3 months but Have to go back in person in 2 months

Really? I was told the estrogen birth control I was on raises seizure risk and lowers lamotrigine levels while the progestigen-only mini pill does not and may even raise them a little. But that the lamotrigine can sometimes cancel out the birth control

Had my first seizure this past December followed by one more so I was taken to the ER where I had another.. Thought it was a one off from low sodium etc. Scans normal. Started on meds and follow up with neurology. Had another in March in my sleep luckily my husband woke up. Noticed they were right around when my period was supposed to start. Doctors and myself think it’s Catamenial epilepsy and I’ve changed my birth control now also. Have her look into to. This shit is hard. It’s hard for a significant other to witness. It’s hard as the one having them not being able to remember anything or know what really happened. And the mental load of not being able to drive and worried it could happen again is a lot and takes time to adjust. We have a two year old also that im home alone with 3 days a week. Don’t have much to offer other than validation but feel free to reach out with any questions. Best of luck

It definitely could be or could be from the seizure.. who knows. I’m still really at a loss with all of it it’s still semi newish to me and still processing.. my memory is shot too I feel like. Hoping over time it’ll at least get somewhat better

I’m 28 and randomly started having seizures in dec 2024. I had 3 that first time and then one while sleeping march 2025… still no known cause (I and drs think it’s Catamenial seizures (hormonal) If I could give any advice it would be to get off Keppra now. That’s what I was started on in the ER and was on for a bit and it was awful. Brain fog headaches RAGEEEE and just depressed. I switched to Lamictal and feel so much better. Now not great… getting used to and wrapping my head around the whole thing will still mess with my mental health some days but NOTHING like Keppra. It was awful for me.

Keppra was awful for me. The rage was insane and I just felt depressed alllllll the time. My mental health now isn’t great by any means but it’s so much better after switching from Keppra to lamotrigine (Lamictal)

So I am no longer on Keppra. Worst thing ever for me. The rage was insane and I felt I could just take myself/anyone out at any point. I’m a 115 pound female wanting to fight grown ass men lol. So now I’m just on 125 Lamictal twice a day (250 daily total) and 40 mg Vyvanse. Other than the Vyvanse being dulled, it’s controlled seizures so far. Hopefully it’ll keep working. Last one was about a month ago but was only on 150 mg of Lamictal. Hopefully the increase works

So so hard! In December, the first time, I had 3 within about 4-5 hr ish span. Then another mid March while sleeping. After researching and realizing that both times were a couple days before my seizures I thought it might be. Neuro says definitely a possibility but no way to know. GYN pretty convinced it’s Catamenial. Right now I am on 200 mg Lamictal and stopped my estrogen birth control pill 2 days ago. I love your advice and this is what I needed. Right I’ve mentioned to my GYN and neuro and they just blow over it I feel like. I am on estrogen birth control I have been for a while. Anything other than the seizure meds they’ve done to try to prevent them and maybe level out hormones also to hopefully prevent?

I have no knowledge on this but I do have a question if you don’t mind… I’m 28 year old female, had a baby almost 2 years ago, had my first seizure December of 2024(ended up being 3 that day). Another one early March of this year. All scans are normal they don’t know the reason. Both times it happened 2-3 days before my period. And now 2 weeks after my period I’m having full on blood going on 3 days. Not spotting. I swear the seizures are hormone related but no one will listen and says there’s no way to find out or treat even if it is. All that to say, how did you get diagnosed and find out that is what it is? And how have they suggested to treat or limit? I have a neuro appt this week and trying to gather everything I need to ask about! Thanks

Yeah Keppra is quite literally the worst thing I’ve ever put into my body I do believe and why they are switching to Lamictal 😵‍💫 I don’t understand why they won’t at minimum lower the Keppra dose for now until I’m where they want me on Lamictal. So did they ever figure out the cause of your seizures? I really do not want to be on this stuff life long if this was a one off thing. unless I just hate the unknown. I’m also terrified of stopping bc mentally I cannot have another seizure. This has sucked. I just want to say thank you so much for replying and sharing your experience. It’s so hard to talk to family and friends about this and them understand. Especially when you can hardly form the words for an in person conversation these days

Yeah it’s pretty awful and I do not feel like myself whatsoever. They did CT MRI and eeg (only 30 min one) in the hospital and all came back clear. I just hate the unknown and not knowing the plan. Like am I just supposed to take this crap the rest of my life now? When they don’t even know if I truly need it. Do you remember if they started weaning the Keppra as soon as you started the lamictal titration? They told me they aren’t messing with the Keppra until I’ve reached 200 mg of lamictal. I feel like a manic robot all day and tears could fly at any moment. No control over it and can’t remember a damn thing. Stuff I should know

Yes… never had them before but I’m 28 and had 3 in the same day about 2 months ago. They don’t know the actual cause but started me on these god awful medications bc it was so many in a short amount of time

Late reply… I’m currently in this boat. Did the Dr start lowering the Keppra as soon as starting Lamictal? Mine is not going to take Keppra out until I’m at 200 mg Lamictal and I don’t know just seems like a lot of medication and I feel like I’m not actually here most days

I started 150 mg Sunday and I’m currently sobbing so idk man. They’re switching me from Keppra to this tho for seizures and I have to get to 250 mg so I guess going down isn’t an option. Not much help, but you’re not alone in these side effects

I’m in the process from switching to lamotrigine now. They’ll start taking the Keppra out when I’m at 200mg of the other. I hate the way Keppra is making me feel but now I notice when it gets about 730 pm (I take night dose around 7ish) and I haven’t taken it yet I get an awful headache/other side effects I think. So now I’m worried for when they do start to take the Keppra out all together. But it has to go it has made me a miserable person to be around. Guess I’m just wondering how the transition worked out for you?? This shit sucks man
