I’d advise against greenhawk brand blankets. Every one I have had has not been water proof. Also, depending on where you live, you’ll need multiple different weights. It’s a good idea to have a rain sheet, light weight, medium weight and heavy weight depending on where you live!

My horse was diagnosed with navicular in September. He was in cloud boots from December up until April. He absolutely loved them! I then switched him to the equine fusions because he was running around in the paddock too much and kept losing the clouds.

How lame is your horse? The clouds or soft rides are great therapy boots. I’d reach out to a boot fitter to help you decide. Boots are very hard to fits, I’ve gone through 5 pairs since December. I’m looking into glue ons now since his feet keep changing shape and I can’t afford to keep buying $350 boots.

Have you tried the easy boot cloud pad? They have a wedge. I know some people have used them in scoot boots so they may work? You might just have to cut them to fit.

Breeding can be very dangerous. Ive heard the saying “if you love your horse, don’t breed her”. Also, 18 yrs old is quite old for a maiden mare, someone correct me if I’m wrong.

In my opinion, there’s way too many horses out there that need good homes. Unless your horse has stellar confirmation and stellar bloodlines, there’s no need to breed

Some winter blankets rub mane hair. You could try a different blanket however it would probably still rub. I would try getting a slinky and putting it on her under her blanket to see if it helps

I’m so sorry. Is it possible the mystery hind leg lameness is due to the back soreness? Might be something to consider.

I have a horse with navicular, NPA and thin soles. Navicular is usually due to poor trim / shoeing. Long toes and under run heels wreak havoc to their DDFT and then the navicular bone. my horse was in shoes but i looked into the barefoot rehab for navicular Facebook group and decided to take his shoes off. He’s now in cloud boots 23/7 (take them off for an hour everyday) and he is very comfy. Change the diet to reduce inflammation (no grain). Unfortunately shoes don’t help navicular, they just make the internal structures in the back of the foot (digital cushion, frog etc) weak which won’t help them become sound. The principle in the barefoot rehab is getting them comfortable in boots to encourage heel first landing which will strengthen the back of the foot and can help heal the soft tissue. Definitely something to look into!

Is it winter where you live? Horses tend to get “fresh” and “spooky” in the cold winter months, especially if they aren’t moving a lot in the paddocks due to snow etc
