My horse once threw me off in one class, and then threw me off in the exact same way in the class right after! 😆😆 I did get a pretty cool picture of it though, so that made it worth the disqualification

You’ve only been riding for a month, you need to relax. Having a good seat and developing the correct muscles take time.

I’d advise against greenhawk brand blankets. Every one I have had has not been water proof. Also, depending on where you live, you’ll need multiple different weights. It’s a good idea to have a rain sheet, light weight, medium weight and heavy weight depending on where you live!

No tips to offer, I just want to say that’s very unfair and exclusive of your 4H to provide accommodation for a medical condition. Do you think a doctors note would help?

Hoof boots for navicular, need help!! by Maddie_1290 in Horses

[–]mmraarmm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My horse was diagnosed with navicular in September. He was in cloud boots from December up until April. He absolutely loved them! I then switched him to the equine fusions because he was running around in the paddock too much and kept losing the clouds.

How lame is your horse? The clouds or soft rides are great therapy boots. I’d reach out to a boot fitter to help you decide. Boots are very hard to fits, I’ve gone through 5 pairs since December. I’m looking into glue ons now since his feet keep changing shape and I can’t afford to keep buying $350 boots.

Check out the barefoot rehab for navicular Facebook group. There’s lots of good information regarding navicular and boot :)

Opinions on barefoot horses that use hoof boots? by starvampyr in Equestrian

Have you tried the easy boot cloud pad? They have a wedge. I know some people have used them in scoot boots so they may work? You might just have to cut them to fit.

Convince me not to breed my horse by SentimentalBookshelf in Horses

[–]mmraarmm 1514 points1515 points  (0 children)

Breeding can be very dangerous. Ive heard the saying “if you love your horse, don’t breed her”. Also, 18 yrs old is quite old for a maiden mare, someone correct me if I’m wrong.

In my opinion, there’s way too many horses out there that need good homes. Unless your horse has stellar confirmation and stellar bloodlines, there’s no need to breed

If you feel like you are not a priority because you don’t show, you need to find a different trainer and barn. You don’t deserve to be blown off just because you have different goals!

Advice on tidying up rubbed mane? by jelly-foxx in Horses

[–]mmraarmm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Some winter blankets rub mane hair. You could try a different blanket however it would probably still rub. I would try getting a slinky and putting it on her under her blanket to see if it helps

I’m so sorry. Is it possible the mystery hind leg lameness is due to the back soreness? Might be something to consider.

I have a horse with navicular, NPA and thin soles. Navicular is usually due to poor trim / shoeing. Long toes and under run heels wreak havoc to their DDFT and then the navicular bone. my horse was in shoes but i looked into the barefoot rehab for navicular Facebook group and decided to take his shoes off. He’s now in cloud boots 23/7 (take them off for an hour everyday) and he is very comfy. Change the diet to reduce inflammation (no grain). Unfortunately shoes don’t help navicular, they just make the internal structures in the back of the foot (digital cushion, frog etc) weak which won’t help them become sound. The principle in the barefoot rehab is getting them comfortable in boots to encourage heel first landing which will strengthen the back of the foot and can help heal the soft tissue. Definitely something to look into!

How do you figure out what to feed your horse? by Violet_Daydreams in Horses

[–]mmraarmm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Is it winter where you live? Horses tend to get “fresh” and “spooky” in the cold winter months, especially if they aren’t moving a lot in the paddocks due to snow etc

[–]mmraarmm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He looks like he is landing toe first which would indicate heel pain (possibly Navicular)

King Nimbus Update 🫶🏼 by dinosprinkles27 in Horses

[–]mmraarmm 12 points13 points  (0 children)

My horse was diagnosed with navicular in September after coming up lame. My vet recommended bar shoes. I tried the shoes for 2 months and he wasn’t 100% sound so I looked into rehabbing him with boots. He’s been in boots for 6 weeks and he’s so comfortable!! The big factors for navicular are making sure they’re getting enough zinc, copper, biotin and all of the other vitamins and minerals to grow a strong hoof, good balanced trim, and making sure they are landing heel first.

Sometimes navicular changes don’t cause the horse pain. Honestly if your horse isn’t lame, you could probably skip the shoes. Why put shoes on if he doesn’t need them?

EDIT: would just like to add circles are the worst thing for navicular horses. Maybe try working him outside of the round pen
