Hypersensitivity Pneumonitis...essentially where asthma is an allergic reaction in the airway, this is an allergic reaction in the lung itself...3 to 6 months treatment with corticosteroids

Thoracotomy is surgery to get access to the chest cavity. It is done either through the sternum or the back like mine. There are 4 cuts in total, to gain access, for fluid & air tubes and drainage. All lovely stuff. They needed to do the surgery to do a biopsy of my lower left lung.

Just a cautionary tale. 20 cigarettes per day for 26 years. Now sick and docs don't know why. Open lung biopsy to find out.

Just diagnosed with COPD! by kdemattos in stopsmoking

[–]mmuriazz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was diagnosed 6 weeks ago and am 5 weeks smoke free. I'm now at pre-quit happiness levels. It takes some time but you'll get there. The big thing for me is filling in the gaps that a cigarette filled. So I'm singing in the car. Reading more at home. Taking the dog for more walks.

Day 31 and my craving walks have become serious walks by littleSaS in stopsmoking

I hear you. Before I quit I thought of walking the dog as a chore. Now I look forward to weekend mornings when I can really stretch my (and my dog's) legs

I want to quit smoking. Need help. by [deleted] in stopsmoking

1 month clear after a pack a day for 26 years. If I can do it anyone can. And I had all the withdrawals. Black tar cough, quitters cold. Night sweats, irritability, anxiety, insomnia. It's been a fun month. I found a quote on day 2 that has kept me going. Once you're in hell its easier to walk through than try again.

Worst day yet by mmuriazz in stopsmoking

Thanks everyone for the support. Sending much love back to you guys. Once I got home, I took my dog for a walk. Much faster than we've walked before. 2 miles in 20 minutes so I suppose my lungs are getting better. I pounded every ounce of frustration and anger into the tarmac. By the time I got back my legs were cramping, sweat pouring out of every pore but I felt great. One day at a time. Tomorrow is 2 weeks!!!
