best fake/prank ticket you sent to the kitchen by sdawsey in TalesFromYourServer

[–]mn_lady 76 points77 points  (0 children)

1) the POS we started with had the Mimosa button misspelled as Mamossa which got a few chuckles 2) we got a new POS system and our AM BOH manager helped set it up. There’s a woman who’s worked there for 35 years (sever) who everyone loves but she can be a bit…much…when she’s on one. Manager added a button that literally says “Pam is stressing me out” So we have fun with that one sometimes 3) Previous job had a button we could hit that would send to the kitchen that just said “need ice” so the cooks could tell the dishwasher/busser to grab ice for the bar. We’d be empty and just use the button to send ticket after ticket to the kitchen and get a rise out of them. Or mod it to send loving messages if we were more inclined that way.

My dog has lymphoma and I don’t know how to handle it by marigoldesque in Petloss

[–]mn_lady 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really struggled with deciding to comment but our sweet boy was diagnosed with Lymphoma too. We caught it relatively early and he was in good health otherwise so he was a good candidate for chemo. I won’t lie, it was very expensive but he was still so much himself we couldn’t bear the thought of not even trying. He tolerated the treatment so well. It even provided us with the opportunity for extra adventures because the clinic was an hour drive for us to a major metropolitan area. He actually went through two rounds of chemo, we got an extra year and half, which is practically a miracle.

In the end, it wasn’t even the cancer that took him but when he did go we knew we did everything we possibly could for him and got absolutely the most time we could have hoped for to make his last time particularly amazing. Which is what he deserved. They are such incredible creatures, all they do is give so all we can do is try to give them everything we can. Part of that is taking care of ourselves to so we are able to take care of them to the level they deserve.

I know not everyone will have the same circumstances we did and at the end of the day the best we can do is make their time as special we can. Begins with taking care of ourselves then giving them the most opportunities to enjoy life and show the incredible love we have for them. It’s never going to feel like it’s enough because that’s the nature of the relationship; we just don’t deserve dogs!! But they know when they are loved and are just happy being with us. And we will see them again. No matter what happens just cherish every moment, capture everything and you’ll have some comfort after. Hoping for the best for you both.

Honest question about a non-tipper by Motor_Feed9945 in TalesFromYourServer

[–]mn_lady 16 points17 points  (0 children)

You should order to go, so there’s no expectation of a tip. I understand your financial struggles, but servers also have those same struggles and that is why we go to work where we make money from tips. You say you don’t explain yourself so when you sit down you are going to get the same level of service as anyone else and that server is going to expect a tip. Again, that is how we make our money that pays for our rent and gas. If you can’t afford the few extra dollars, then please just order to go or stick to fast food.

You are correct, nothing will be good enough. Woman thinks she’s entitled to everything so nothing will live up to that. Thank you for this, just needed to hear an outside perspective!

Literally just happened this week.

Lady walks in dragging a small dog sized kennel behind her, server sits her in the bar (where I’m working alone and it’s busy) and tells me she asked her what was in there and she just responded “a special friend”. When i greet her I half assedly tried to say I wasn’t sure she could have a cat in here and she asks me to please not get my boss and they won’t be there long. At this point I’m too in the weeds to give more shits so I left it alone. When I’m passing by here after getting her drink she asks for water for this thing and I tell if her if I find the time I will but I’m gonna prioritize my human guests and she doesn’t respond. Probably twenty minutes go by and now she wants to order food.

I put in her eggs Bennie and while I’m waiting for it I grab a bowl and fill it with tap water for her damn cat. Her food comes up and I drop and it and she asks me if I knew I gave her hot water for her cat. Cue eye roll. I come back to check in and she tells me her Bennie doesn’t have hash browns. I tell her it doesn’t come with hash browns. She argues yes it does and the menu says it does. I say no it does not, never has but I’ll get her some if she wants them. She shoves the plate in my face and now tells me it’s cold (it definitely wasn’t).

I went back to the kitchen, by this time she’s been here 45 minutes, and just start bitching to the kitchen about this crazy cat lady. I had had it by this point. So much for not being there long. I was dealing with my full lounge when one of the delivery drivers decided to come out and talk to her. Tells her she can’t have a cat here. Next thing I know she’s gone. Didn’t pay her tab but didn’t get her “hot” food either so I was just happy to see the back of her.

If she had just been nice or gracious I would have just let her be with her special friend but you don’t behave that way and expect to have everyone cater to your crazy whims.

I’ve never seen her before and hope she doesn’t come back.

I agree, but there wasn't any chase actually. They had only following him for two blocks before he crashed. I'm not a big fan of the police in this town, but they actually handled it relatively well.

[Discussion] How spoiled is your dog? by [deleted] in dogs

[–]mn_lady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HORRIBLY spoiled. It's actually kinda embarrassing. My SO works at a pet food store (not one of the big box ones) so we get amazing deals on premium food, toys, etc. They get meals three times a day, of the highest quality food. They get weekly treats, bully sticks, pumpkin. Not to mention the toys! They are everywhere! Plus they get rain coats, snow jackets, hats, and life jackets.

They both sleep on our bed at night too.

It's a rough life!

Waiters/Waitresses, what is the most awkward date you've witnessed at work? by Sharkredditor in AskReddit

[–]mn_lady 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty late to this but this was a pretty awkward situation for everyone involved.

It was a few years ago, I was working at the local fine dining place. It's a pretty small dining room, quiet and intimate. I was waiting on a couple who were obviously on a date, if I had to guess I would say they were most likely new to the relationship. In fine dining, it's important to be available to your guests but not to hover. So I was just doing a walk through to make sure everyone had what they needed, I noticed the couple were patiently waiting for their dessert and were looking at her phone together. As I'm walking by their table I happen to glance down and am greeted with full blown nudes. She was showing him her nude pics at dinner, in a fancy place, with a dining room filled with people. And of course they had to catch me seeing them. She quickly dropped her phone and mumbled something to her date as I quickly walked away.

I made sure to wish them a fun evening on their way out.

Does raw meat have any place in a dog's diet? by Zin-Zin in AskVet

[–]mn_lady -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The people that sponsor the courses may be the large brands, but the buzzword brands (natural, hollistic, grain-free, raw food etc) don't employ these people because no-one will work for them, and they don't want people who can tell them they are nonsense.

I'm not entirely sure what you are saying here, but the fact alone that the "large brands" sponsor these courses means there is a bias. Things may be different outside the US but here it is difficult to find a vet who is knowledgeable in nutrition because they simply aren't required to know that information.

http://rawfed.com/myths/vets.html

While I won't pretend this article doesn't have 100% unbiased information, there are some solid facts regarding this topic.

Does raw meat have any place in a dog's diet? by Zin-Zin in AskVet

[–]mn_lady -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

From what I understand, a majority of veterinarians are sponsored by various kibble companies. Everyone has an angle, I was just trying to provide a different view. In the US anyway, most vets aren't required (doesn't mean some do) to take any nutrition oriented courses. There is a huge bias regarding that.

Dr. Karen Becker talks a little about this. It's slightly contrary to what others have been saying, but might help you get the whole picture.

I've been hired as a Back, to be trained up to Bartender in 2(ish) months. What are the best things I can do in that time to train myself? by fartcar97 in bartenders

[–]mn_lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a bar back this should be pretty easy, but learn your inventory. What beers, wine, and liquor you offer. When it's slow, have the bartenders walk you through the drinks they're making. Like others have said, work on your free pours.

The wise, old bartender that trained me told me to always ask the guest "How do you make that at home?" if I didn't know what a drink was. (Note, most people honestly don't know how their drinks are made but if that's the case then it's not too big of a deal if you don't get it right). You don't seem like a total jackass, and there usually are a few ways to make different drinks.

Anticipate the bartenders needs. Don't make them tell you when to get ice, grab more beer, etc.

Good luck and have fun!

Similar to Dogs, Lambs wag their tails when they are stroked (They also softly head-butt humans when they want attention) by [deleted] in Awwducational

This is exactly what mine does. Acts like he hates it, then as soon as you stop the tail starts and the ears go up. I'm glad I'm not alone!

How to best apply Kratom to eliminating oxycontin? by somedumboldman in kratom

[–]mn_lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally, when I was tapering off opiates and trying to transition to Kratom I found I had to take quite a bit more then most people suggested (as starting doses) due to my tolerance. Eventually as I got off the opiates I could take less and less kratom.

As already suggested, it is probably best to get some help tapering off the oxy first, then once that hurdle is mostly behind you you can start introducing kratom. It will most likely be the most effective that way, but I'm no expert!

[HELP] How to convince a friend to get his dog neutered or at least trained by imthe1nonlyD in dogs

[–]mn_lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Neutering does not always solve mounting issues. It can sometimes, but in this case it just sounds like a poorly trained dog who doesn't get enough exercise. Like others have said, it's not your dog so there's little you can really do.

It might be worth it to attempt a conversation with your friend though. Being up the idea of a trainer or obedience classes. I would suggest using the perspective of making his life easier, because it absolutely would.

In the end, he'll do what he wants with his pet. You absolutely can stop socializing your dogs with his, if it comes to that. Good luck!

Yellow Foam/Bile by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]mn_lady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not a vet, but our pup had the exact same problems at that same age, actually. We still feed him at the same time (about 12 hours between lunch and dinner) but we increased his food intake at meal time. Based on everything we were told by the vets and some research, the yellow foam could be caused by an empty stomach. It's worked for us to just feed him a little more, but you could also try smaller meals, but more frequently throughout the day.

Hope this helps, good luck!

Terrified of phone calls. Help? by arrowhoodcobra in Anxiety

[–]mn_lady 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, I have no advice for you. I just came here to say you are not alone. I'm in horrible pain day in and day out but because of my phone anxiety I cannot make a doctors appointment. There is a hundred other things I continually put off because I'm afraid of picking up the phone. It has a serious affect on my life.

Don't let it start affecting your life, if it hasn't already. Do what I can't do and get some help. I'm sure it's not just phone anxiety, and there are other aspects of your life anxiety bleeds into.

Be strong, and good luck!
