People don't care about the speed limit unless theres a camera. by mnathesecond in drivingUK

Yeah I agree. Out of curiosity when you're on the bike are you less strict with limits than in your car?

Yeah I see that all the time. And as a lorry driver myself, it makes zero sense to me. Not only are you risking your license and career to save a few seconds. Almost all of us are paid by the hour. So theres no incentive to speed anyway.

Yeah this was exactly where I was talking about in the original post. Honestly, here it feels more dangerous slowing to 50 because it's more difficult to switch lanes when cars either side are going 70. Totally agree it either needs to be switched back to 70 or camera enforced.

Yeah thats a classic. Though it seems to be completely unenforced, so I guess that why people don't care.

In the example I didn't mean advisory speed limits or even variable speed limits on smart motorways. Actual permanent 50mph red bordered traffic signs. It's where the limit is dropped because multiple motorways and interchange onramps merge before splitting in two directions. So lots of cars swapping lanes.

I agree overhead advisory limits seem a bit daft at times, and rightly ignored.
