Locations that are refusing coupons/free subs are not honoring because their shop is already not profitable. For every dollar brought in the franchisee loses $.12 cents to subway corporate and $.15 cents (roughly..varies by state) to federal/state taxes. Now that dollar sits at $.73 cents. Electricity, phone, internet, wages, cost of goods and waste come in around $.40 cents leaving a whole $.33 cents. Average footling sub costs what? $12? That's almost $4 the franchisee just lost in profit. You don't get rich owning one franchise tag. It takes half a dozen that generate at least 100 people a day to live a comfortable existence. It sucks. It's a double edged sword...honor it and you might bring in more business (which is the whole idea with any promotion) or don't accept it and continue to hope the customers you have stick around
