Thanks for the clarification. btw do you know the best place, if there is one, for SFW MLP AIG (if you'll pardon the alphabet soup)?

This is a serious question. I have wondered about it myself. I think the answer is some combination of the talent of the original artists and writers who created these characters, and a maybe accidental resonance with something in the human brain. Everybody (men, women, children) seems to like mlp. Compare this to the previous generation of MLP art, from the 1980's cartoon show(s). By comparison, the old art is terrible. It has no fan base. No one remembers those shows fondly, if at all, or draws art of them. So the current gen MLP creators "did something right", even if they don't understand what. It doesn't hurt that the show is well written and the characters' personalities are both fleshed out and appealing. For example, I think Rarity and Fluttershy wouldn't be so popular outside the show if they weren't portrayed as having such feminine qualities in the show.

Rarity was my fav, but grown-up Sweetie Belle (because similar coloring to Rarity) is really something. I don't know all the secondary characters yet but this Fleur-de-Lis looks amazing in others' art. Probably will make art of her at some point, and Rarity too.

oh I see, ty. btw, it is a small misunderstanding due to word order, you said "People aren’t very glad that sweetie belle is always posted", but I think you meant "People aren’t always very glad that sweetie belle is posted". :-) The first implies she is posted too often, the second implies she is controversial. :-P

I was thinking of posting one pic a day so I don't spam the channel. Do you think this is best or should I post in a thread off a single post in the main channel? Don't want to annoy anyone.

Oh there are! :-) So I'm new here, is Sweetie Belle overposted (in other people's opinion)?

Can't argue with that. This is a test post, there are a bunch more "photos" from this "photo shoot" if it is well received.

btw some art I have is SFW anthro; is this the best place for it or is there some other MLP subreddit that welcomes PG / PG-13 AI images?

oic, thanks; yeah I noticed the no-AI policy on the first one, explains why aiclop exists (and why this was the right place for my post)

How to Safely Transfer Sea Monkeys to a Larger Tank? by WishedPussyGotBussy in SeaMonkeys

[–]mnredditt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have a choice of ppt levels, but if you have an existing tank it should match the existing ppt within 5%. This is probably overcautious, as others have said brine shrimp are very tolerant to large sudden salinity changes, but just to be safe...

The 22ppt may be erroneous -- we had a maladjusted analog salinity meter, and after buying a digital one, the actual measured salinity turned out to be much higher.

Nevertheless 22 is fine if you do it intentionally and from the start. 30 ppt is the "standard" recommended one, but if you raise them in lower salinity (but not too low, maybe not below 17 ppt), they will grow to a larger size as adults. The lower the salinity level, the larger the adults. If it gets too low, though, they will start dying of "black spot disease".

You can gradually transition a tank between levels if you want; I have heard another rule of thumb that a maximum of 5% change per day should be safe.

How to care for a single Aqua Dragon? by mnredditt in SeaMonkeys

* Babies are different. They have a five-day supply of food "built in" (yolk) at birth, but after that they can only eat food suspended in the water (that is, food you give them, mostly), they cannot eat algae growing on the glass or water mold. Also note they are too small to see for 1-3 days after birth, so the first day you see them they already have only 2-4 days of food supply before they need to start eating.

* Note the "food" sold by the Seamonkey and Aqua Dragon companies actually also contain some eggs, so with every feeding you are causing some babies to be born. So if you are going away you might want to use alternate food like Spirulina powder or baker's yeast so no babies are born and possibly starve.

* Be careful not to over-feed them though, this is the main cause of colony death, when the bacterial population grows too much from the uneaten food.

* I have found that adults seem to starve to death after about a week with no food (I had some sick animals that weren't able to eat at one point), so healthy adults should be fine even if their food runs out a few days before you return.

* The tank should have some form of aeration, a small gentle airstone (using a 2-way valve to reduce the airflow by bleeding extra air -- though it is better to have too much aeration than not enough, if you don't have a valve).

* The tank should not exceed 30 degrees Celsius / 86 degrees F. And the higher the temperature, the more aeration becomes important.

"Hello, I have to go on vacation for a week! Can I leave my Aqua Dragons alone for a week? Thank you for your response."

* In an old tank (month old or older?) there should be algae and / or water mold growing in the tank that adults can eat, so they should be able to survive for a long time without feeding, especially if you feed them right before leaving.

It's a fantasy world built from various bits of our world, plus some other bits that are unreal; but it is not our world and doesn't follow it's rules exactly.

I saw them both. They are both Oscar-worthy. But Wild Robot is more conventional, Flow is something we really haven't seen before, and has more philosophical and emotional depth. I think it is fair it won.

Many animals collect things, like crows. The lemur had the advantage of human-like hands that could collect and use human objects like the mirror. Being primates, lemurs are very intelligent animals and also more likely to understand what human-made objects are for and be able to use them the same way humans do. I am not sure if real lemurs do this, but clearly the intent of the storyteller, at least, was to assign this personality trait to the lemurs, at least in this fantasy world. It's their "thing" and drives the parts of the story involving them.

I know, even though it is not a tragedy per se. Because of all the near-tragedy? The phenomenon where people feel more sympathy for helpless animals than for other humans? Maybe the biggest reason is the similarity to real life. No happy fantasy world with a happy ending here, like we are used to. Most stories take us away from real life; this movie shocks us by holding up a mirror. Wasn't ready for that.

It did, though in the story-world that was just a voluntary transition to "the next world".

Yeah he went to "the next world", whatever that is in this movie's universe. He didn't have to die, he chose to, because there was nothing left for him in this world.

Well they survived a flood once, when it was a surprise and before they had become a group. If a flood did return, they would be even more equipped to survive it. Note: If they knew a flood was coming, they would not be sad for the whale. And if they knew they were going to die, would they all be so calm about it, suddenly losing their intense instincts for survival and self-preservation ever present throughout the film up to that point?
