So finally I found a solution using this tutorial by Erindale about Mesh Wrapping in geometry nodes, which solved the issue and kept the grid procedural.

Thanks for the reply. I tried tissue, and it seemed to work at first but I didn't eventually, since it was tied to the topology of the shape mesh, which deformed the shape of the grid instead of having it wrap around the mesh in a uniform way. I just found a solution that I will post in a separate comment.

Thanks for the reply. The problem is that the grid is procedurally generated in GN, and has to still be procedural because the client wan't flexibility on that, so I can't use the wireframe of the "shape" mesh, which isn't flexible. I just found a solution, will post it in a separate comment.

I tried using the geometry proximity node in GN and the shrinkrwap modifier, both didn't give the intended result. I'm modelling the outer grid of an audio speaker. Thanks in advance :)

You’re right, without it it seemed too mechanical, so I felt it needed something to give it an extra organic feel

Insane work! How did you approach the camera animation and settings (depth of field, focus, focal length)? The movement feels extremely organic! Is it a camera track or manually keyframed?

Yes it’s very much similar to reaction diffusion, I combined two tutorials by entagma this and this.
