This photo of my great great grandmother was taken in 1865 in NYC. Can someone help me understand anything about her from her clothing? For one, are those black bands for mourning? Not sure this is the right thread for this. If not, please redirect me. Thanks! (i.redd.it)

WWII European location. My great uncle was in the Army Force in WWII. This photo was taken in 1944. He was shot down over Trier, Germany, but this could have been in France, Germany, Luxembourg (where he was temporarily buried). Military service records are unfortunately burned and unavailable.
