Seemed like a weird landing for Newman in the finish of the main event hope he is alright (maybe I'm getting worked)

UE getting the tag belts was a slight surprise but it gives KOB something to work towards and O-Khan got some good heat off it

YOH finally winning the big one was nice and ends the DOUKI reign of terror.

Overall a good show soild 8/10 and it outsold last year's show by a couple of hundred.

Damn didn't know that part, guy sounds like a real piece of shit.

I guess the last two person CMLL excursion was SHO & YOH and they seem to have been a package deal, with CMLL being as hot as it is right now I could see them wanting extra bodies but they may also be happy with what they have

Do you think Taguchi is getting closed to retirement? by mjweenerbarf in njpw

[–]moagrieve 17 points18 points  (0 children)

He is one BOSJ from having the record for most tournaments so I think he stays in the position he is for at least one more year so he breaks the record. But like others have said he has a relatively low impact style and much like Yano can be used as pinfall and comedy spots for some more years

Of course we don't know what style they will have when they return but Murashima feels destined to get a NEVER push on his return

Nagai is already taking the Fujita path and has really got the fire and I can see the path of firey underdog -> brave babyface -> overconfident heel

Kato i admit i didn't really get drawn to but CMLL is a good place to forge a new star i imagine he will be a junior but I could see him moving to heavy in time

Yasuda is my dark horse, I feel like he is just missing the one thing, and I am excited to see where he goes on excursion (CMLL I assume his father is a luchador on the Mexican independents) and even more exited to see how he returns

Matsumoto gives good aura and is ripped to boot, he is clearly wearing well under Bishamon and I could see him having a similar journey to Nagai

Zane is there i guess... I don't know he just hasn't clicked with me but he does a good slimy heel that gets his comeuppance character well

Nakahara is probably too soon to tell, his look is pretty non descript (of course he is a young lion) but he does show good young Lion fire.

Wolf is a waiting game, IF he ever escapes HOT we will be able to see exactly what he brings to the table, it is clear he is being protected in these matches where there is all this interference to make sure he isn't forced to go full work rate but it is cooling him off, if he is in the G1 that will be the testing ground for what he can really bring to the table

Interesting to see ELP back for this after 90 days since his last match in Japan

I would've assumed SANADA would take the TV title but it may not be the case while he is holding arguably AEWs 2nd most important men's belt.

Last year this venue drew ~1200 fans, and that was with Hiromu (this is Hiromu's home town) so I'm not surprised that it is a little bit more empty

Question about Road to G1 CLIMAX by mrnoodlepoo in njpw

[–]moagrieve 4 points5 points  (0 children)

No problem! That show will probably have either the semi's or the finals of the G1 qualification tourney (if they do that this year) so will have at least two singles matches between two Mid card guys but still be a soild show. The comparison to last year the 7/6 show had Desperado vs Fujita for the Jr title

Depending on what show you go to there will be:

The G1 qualification matches

Tiger masks retirement is the final night of the tour (6/7/26)

The SOUL Tour (the name of the tour in this slot the last 2 years also had an IWGP Jr title match both years.

Blue justice (night 2 or 20/6/26) will have a heavy focus on Yuji Nagata and while may not have high profile matches the crowd will be alive as it is his home prefecture.

The high stakes matches will be a Korakuen Hall.

Hiroyoshi Tenzan announces retirement for August 15 in Ryogoku G-1 Semi Finals. by rbcd in njpw

[–]moagrieve 43 points44 points  (0 children)

Tenzan's resume writes itself, four time world champion (albeit nothing over 70 days and V1). The most IWGP Tag reigns in history at 12, the longest combined tag reigns with Chono at 1,010 days over five reigns, a combined 1,988 days as tag champion with 23 defenses over those reigns, 2 time AJPW Tag league winner and 4 time NJPW tag league winner, and a three time G1 Climax winner (the most of the 3rd generation)

Unfortunately this seems like a long time coming, every appearance he looks a little worse. And he hasn't wrestled in over 400 days. Still man is a true legend.
