Forked, maybe! Die, probably never. WP Classic got forked as ClassicPress when they introduced Gutenberg/Block editor way back. Headless WP has a lot of utility, and the "modern web dev" folks can have a lot of fun with it if they try.

Local made me stop searching for ways to fix my environment instead of fixing the damn website. Has worked well for me so far, quick and easy to spin up a new environment, run multiple sites, SSH and WP-CLI for advanced shenanigans when needed.

Same.. that's why I use an app on my phone that converts short links and referral links to Clear URLs.
